It's all in the headline! I like digital clocks but they can be hard to read sometimes, unless they have a backlight. On this occasion, a 10" dial seemed appropriate. Radio controlled would have been my first choice, but I couldn't find one that Amazon reviewers consistently reported to be silent, (despite some of the product description claims). In the end, I bought this clock because so many reviews said it was silent. Description. Apart from the silver frame on the YC5002, the following remarks should apply equally to the black framed YC5001. The clock is as pictured: silver frame, off-white background, bold black minute and hour markings, bold minute and hour hands, red sweep second hand. It looks smart on the wall and I can read it easily without glasses from at least five yards away, even in quite low light. It's described as a 10" dial, which is accurate. That refers to the diameter including the silver frame (as expected). The actual clock face is about 8.5" diameter. Accuracy. [Edit 31 March 2019:] The clock has gained about 3 seconds in the 76 days I've had it. It has a quartz movement for accuracy, but within 15 seconds a year is better than I expected. (I will update this review if there is significant change.) Battery Life. Too soon to tell. It takes 1 x AA battery, which is not supplied. I put an Amazon Basics alkaline battery in it (decent, cheap batteries) and would expect it to last a year. (I will update this review if it doesn't.) But is it silent? "Non ticking" was an important feature for me, as it obviously is for a lot of people, so I'd better explain. I can't hear anything until I press my ear hard up against the clock. Then I can hear a faint, rapid ticking. Having tuned into this sound, I can still hear it as I slowly back off but it's gone by about an inch away. Remember with an old (wind-up) wrist watch, you had to press it against your ear to find out if it was still going? Well it's like that. I'm calling that silent. Summary. Reasonably priced, smart looking, easy to read, great timekeeper, silent. Highly Recommended!

This clock is well made, looks great and the second hand drifts silently round the face. It doesn’t make a sound. What I can’t understand is why people are reviewing it as an automatic synchronising timepiece. Nothing in the instructions, on the box or on the clock itself says that it does this. I put a single AA battery into it, set the time and that’s it. Unless I have missed something, this clock does not set it’s own time and, when I ordered it, I wasn’t aware of this feature. Delighted to have it, perfect size, easy to read, does the job.

I have this clocks for over two weeks.No disappointment so far. Good value for the money, works silently, accurately, visibly, good size.

I’ve mounted this above our kitchen extractor and it looks really good, very easy to read with a quick glance. I’ve had it for more than a few months and the time keeping is still on point. I love the fact that it’s silent.

Bought this to replace a remote control clock, which was hopeless, it would randomly change the time and would be a pain to reset. This clock is perfect, it is easy to set and it’s a nice size for a kitchen.

Nowadays it is almost impossible to find a kitchen clock with a metal body, so I settled on this one, so far with no regrets. Is keeping good time so far, and is genuinely silent, presumably because the second hand has a smooth and continuous movement. Has a clean and easy to read face. Recommended.

Needed a silent clock for a bedroom. Chose this based on reviews and the clear design. Bought 25 Oct 2024, have loved it until today (24 Dec 2024) when the extremely quiet noise made by the mechanism became as loud and intrusive as a normal ticking clock. So it was great for less than two months. The supplier advised I put a brand new Duracell battery in, which I did. It remained silent for about two days before getting noisy again. I asked the supplier to replace it. They said I had to return it to them for inspection, at my own expense. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 says I should not be out of pocket for returning a faulty item. I have put this to them but had no reply. I accept that many other people are happy with the clock (which persuaded me to buy it) but I clearly have a faulty one and they will not offer to collect it or refund any postage costs.

Lovely clock. No ticking. You can just about hear the whirr of the motor moving the hands, so don’t install in a bedroom near the bed. Good clear visibility even from a side angle, but slightly obscured by the rim so not idea for viewing from very wide angles I would say. Lovely clock though. :)
