Welch Allyn 76600 Professional PenLite

Perfect for ophthalmology. Fairly bright, just a touch dimmer than most transilluminators, but works just as well for visualizing the sclera. Fits perfectly in my scrub pockets, super strong pocket clip with a solid construction overall. The on-off toggle feels a bit finicky/loose sometimes but it otherwise works great for my line of work.

Item was the same as advertised; good quality, functional and works as it is expected, and the light is bright. Bought this to replace an old one which stopped working.

I like that this penlite is sturdy & durable. The light isn't too bright. Which, makes it difficult to assess PERRLA in a hospital setting due to the bright lights in the building.

I am a physician who uses the light to look into people’s mouths. It is bright and powerful and effective but is a little on the large size and takes up too much room in my jacket pocket so I keep it in my desk and only use it when my smaller penlight isn’t effective enough.

Thought I would enjoy this. The pocket clip is robust and perfectly tensioned to stay in my scrubs pocket even when I bend over (how many penlights have I lost in patient bedding because the pocket clip is marginal at best?) The on-off has a crisp snap and it's a slide so I can tell by feel whether it is on or not. But: It's VERY bright (maybe a little brighter than necessary for neuro checks but wonderful for oral/nasal illumination). The halogen bulb gets very warm very quickly and I feel it when I tuck it back into my pocket after only a few seconds of use. It is pricey. Finally: I have dropped it maybe four times from chest height or table height. The back switch module is held on to the body by two plastic tabs that apparently break VERY easily as I've now had two of them break. One other other occasion the bulb went out replacement bulbs are $29.95. Overpriced. Poorly engineered for regular nursing duty use (sorry, nurses do drop things occasionally...) replacement bulbs overpriced as it breaks WAY too easily. A couple of weeks to do the return-and-service process. I initially left a glowing review. I WANT to like this thing, as it is solid. As it is, my verdict is it is unfortunately overpriced junk. I'm going back to $10 ray-o-vac LED penlights. I'd rather have the warmth and color tone of halogen, but if I can't have it all I MUST have something that will stand up to a little abuse and keep running and not break.

I really like this penlight, the housing is solid and should last a career. The bulb is bright but does not tolerate being dropped. I have had to replace two of the halogen bulbs after dropping the light onto a tile floor.
