St. Francis was a primarily Abenaki village in the then province of Canada from which the tribe raided English settlements as far south as Massachusetts. Robert Rogers led his company of Rangers to raid the enemy settlement in retaliation during the French and Indian War. Rogers would claim his party of approximately 140 men killed 300 at St. Francis, while French reports put the number closer to 30 and those mostly women and children.
