A really great read m, now I need the rest of the series
Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior (Ancient Evil, Living Hope) review. Thus is a wonderful book to read. My dad and myself both read it and was very intrigued.Written like a truthful historical narrative full of accurate details and sweeping prose that ushers in the true King and glorifies God's powerful plan to bring a savior into the world through unlikely means. A coda between the authors, full of honest revelation and insightful meaning, follows each chapter for added in-depth reading. The first installment in the Ancient Evil, Living Hope series, Herod and Mary begins with the tragic life of King Herod Christianity's first true persecutor. As an impressionable boy, he is forever marked by the raw power of Rome. Throughout the course of Herod's career, he gains power, fame, and riches beyond belief. Yet murderous intrigues stalk this man and infect his own dark soul.

Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior
I've really enjoyed reading Herod and Mary by Kathy Lee Gifford. I love how it intertwines factual history with a bit of fictional liberties to make it a bit more relatable and fill in the gaps. This was an easy read; interesting enough to keep my turning pages! I initially picked it up to just read the first chapter and found myself getting immediately caught up in it. Very well written. The timeline and family tree were helpful in orienting myself to the people involved.

A New Discovery
Herod and Mary: The True Story of the Tyrant King and the Mother of the Risen Savior by Kathie Lee Gifford is a captivating and insightful read. Gifford, along with Bryan M. Litfin, Ph.D., expertly weaves together the lives of King Herod and Mary, Mother of Jesus, against the tumultuous backdrop of ancient Jerusalem. The narrative skillfully delves into Herod’s rise to power and his tyrannical rule, juxtaposed with Mary’s journey and the divine promise of the Messiah. The detailed historical context and vivid storytelling bring these biblical figures to life, offering a fresh perspective on their intertwined destinies. Each chapter, followed by insightful revelations from the authors, adds depth to the reading experience. This first installment in the Ancient Evil, Living Hope series is a must-read for those interested in biblical history, offering a profound look at how God's powerful plan unfolded through the lives of these extraordinary individuals.

Outstanding!
Excellent from start to finish. The Coda’s were a unique way to conclude the book. When I reflect back on them they make you feel like you’re part of a book club without being a part of one!I loved being able to receive answers on questions I was thinking about when I was actually reading the chapters. The layout is profound literary genius!5 stars!

Lots of drama
I felt the book was just ok. It's just a bunch of drama in the life of Herod. I did find some of it somewhat interesting, but overall got bored. There didn't seem to be much of a point. Mary is only talked about a very small amount. What actually bothered me the most about this book was the comments from Kathy and her son in the last chapters. As a Christain I was surprised at a lot of what she said, and her perspectives, I found to be pretty distasteful! Also, there is no free return unless you can get to a UPS store.

Should just have been titled "Herod"
There was a lot of scholarly work done concerning Herod, and because I like history, discovered some new things about Herod and the culture of the time he lived. Very little (as compared to copious pages about Herod) about Mary, although, as we know, the contrasts are striking. Would have actually preferred 2 separate books about 2 very unique individuals.
