The guardians of Gotham City celebrate their 1960s television roots in this new cartoon feature entitled ‘BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS,’ where Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment production takes Batman fans on a journey into the iconic past with this full-length animated Batman feature film which features the vocal performances of Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin and Julie Newmar as Catwoman. This is a large trip down memory lane with the Dynamic Duo’s glorious days on the American Broadcasters ABC Network back in 1966, where this cartoon is a glorious homage to those fiendish foes the Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman all looking to steal a replicator ray gun, to conquer space and end the meddling of Batman and Robin. Home Entertainment is proud to initiate a series of animated movies under the new ‘DC Classics Collection’ brand and totally honoured to have Adam West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar give new life to these iconic characters,” said Mary Ellen Thomas.The only thing I found slightly disconcerting with this animated feature film ‘BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS’ is with the voice of Adam West, who is as you can understand is now much older, especially as he was born on 19th September, 1928 and of course when he appeared in that hilarious camp TV show ‘Batman’ from 1966 to 1968 and was at the height of his acting career, but with this animated feature film his voice has changed dramatically, and when you hear him speak his voice tends to quiver and is to my mind slightly off putting, and especially with his 2016 voice it makes me feel I am watching the animated TV series ‘Family Guy,’ because in that animated cartoon he is the Mayor of the fictional district of Providence in Rhode Island, and when you see a photo of him today, you can understand why he looks like the spitting image of the fictional Mayor. But despite this situation, this animated feature film is totally brilliant and totally awesome, and the people who did the animation should definitely get some kind of award for their sterling professional work and I hope more of these Batman animated feature films will be released sometime in the near future.Blu-ray Video Quality – Warner Home Video has brought something special with this release in presenting the video images in stunning 1080p encoded images, and an equally stunning 1.85:1 aspect ratio that really shows off this amazing animated film with truly amazing images. Overall, this turns out to be one of DC comic books better-looking and least-problematic releases, and Batman fans of both the studio's animated titles as well as the 1960s TV series should be pretty happy with what they get here. So full marks to Warner Home Video efforts in showing us this amazing animated cartoon in true high definition glory. Sock! Bam! you get to hear throughout the animated film, that really shows off the sound effects to its full potential of this DC animated release, which is totally crisp, clean, and free of any noticeable defects. There's very little use of directionality throughout, although one instance that I do remember is when Bruce Wayne throws the red bat-phone into the fireplace at Wayne Manor. The spoken word is exclusively up-front, which leaves the surrounds to be used primarily to enhance the musical score, but it is very much a dialogue-heavy release with several scenes where no surround usage is being made at all. So all in all this is a brilliant effort on the part of Warner Home Video.Blu-ray Special Features and Extras:Special Feature: Those Dastardly Desperados! [2016] [1080p] [1.78:1] [10:29] The Joker, The Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman are impossible not to watch! Here we take a look at the actors who are behind voice the dastardly evil fiendish villains, which of course consist of Jeff Bergman [The Joker], Wally Wingert [The Riddler], William Salyers [The Penguin], and of course, Julie Newmar [Catwoman]. Adam West [Batman] and Burt Ward [Robin] are also on hand to give their comments on being involved with this brilliant animated feature film. One thing that really shocked me is to see how Burt Ward, Adam West and Julie Newmar have aged quite considerably and the years have not been very kind to them and have not aged gracefully. It is full of fun, action, and great bits of camp dialogue, and this has turned out to be one of DC comic's best animated releases so far and I suspect the fans of this series and especially me will hopefully look forward to new releases in the near future. If there's one version of Batman that everyone loves, it's the 1960's tv show. DC Comics scored a recent hit with the title 'Batman 66' which told Batman stories in the style of said show. And now we have an animated movie which does the same.This is a wholly original story, though, and not based on any of those comics.It's a fully animated movie, which runs for seventy five minutes. In the voice cast are Adam West [Batman]. Burt Ward [Robin] and Julie Newmar [Catwoman] all returning to those roles they played on tv so long ago.The Caped Crusaders here have their hands full dealing with a dastardly plot hatched by that evil group Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman. Armed with a diabolical replicating ray, the world is at their mercy. But when Batman goes bad, who can save the day...?This does take a minute or two to get used to. The opening isn't in the style of the tv show, and has a remixed version of the classic theme. But does pay very nice homage to some classic comic covers from down the years. You don't get the usual between scenes effect from the tv show, or the narration either.But the moment you hear the two leads speak - both do sound their age of course but they just go with it, so you shouldn't have any problem doing the same - you are totally hooked. Because this is Batman in their style once again,What is impressive is how much it does to stick to that original style. With so many of the cliches do so exactly right. And credit to the rest of the voice cast, as they all do their best to act in the style of the original actors who are no longer with it. It has puns, superb wordplay, tilted camera angles...everything you would expect.It's just as long as it needs to be, and although the plot does feel for a few minutes as if it's sagging round the midway point, it always does know just where it's going, as you will realise once you get to the end. Watching this is like being a victim of a more recent incarnation of the Joker. You will find you're smiling and chuckling. And you just can't stop.If you don't know the original show then you won't get quite as much fun from this since you won't get the references, but you'll have a good time anyway.Do keep watching the end credits. There's no additional scene as such but there is some fun animation going on during it.A superb homage to the original and a fun watch in it's own right. Well worth five stars.The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, French, Castilian Spanish, Hungarian.Subtitles: English, Arabic, Castilian Spanish, Dutch, French, Hungarian.Although it doesn't mention the above Hungarian options on the box, I have checked the disc and they do exist.It contains the usual flyer with code to use to download a copy of the film from a website onto a digital device.The only extras are two trailers, for two other animated Batman movies. Batman Vs Robin and Son of Batman. As with the usual trailers they do on dc animated dvds, these are long for trailers, and feature cast and crew talking about the project, along with line drawings rudimentary animation from the film, and the occasional actual clip.

Did not know what to expect, and I was really busy, and ordered thisto be sure I could get a copy.When I finally got work caught up, I was blown away when I got around to looking at this.I am old enough to have seen the silly Batman series, first run.Made myself a plastic model of the George Barris Batmobile, with the red trim.(I was a girl that made models.)When I saw a promo for this movie/cartoon, on another DVD, I had to get it.What a great idea. Turn the tables.Take the live action series, based on comic book characters, and turn aroundand do animation based on the live series.SO GOOD! So many laugh-worthy things, one after another.I have never laughed so many times watching ANYTHING.So much better than the live series, by many degrees.This movie has 3 original actors reading their original parts, and the charactersthat did not have the same actors had folks doing very passable voices to fit in.Fun is poked at the live series, with in-jokes all along the way.There was even more labeled bat-gadgets than ever, and even making funof how much bat-labeling was in the old series.Aunt Harriet lets Alfred know she knows what's going on: meaning whythe guys keep going out at night.And there is an aside to the audience that she understands why Bruce Waynekeeps Dick Grayson's old maiden aunt around.That is referring to why the TV network wanted her around: to fend offcomments about why a grown man is living with a young male teenager,and they both run around in tights.This character was not in the comic books, and was added to be family-friendly.At one point, Batman gets conked in the head, and sees triple:he's looking at Catwoman, and sees three of her.There were 3 actresses that portrayed the character, 2 in the series, and onein the movie that came out while the series was on.So the in-joke is that Batman sees the 3 different catwomen as he tries to focus.The animation is actually excellent, the story is right out of the kind of stuff donein the series, and the whole thing is set in the mid-60's, like the series.The ridiculousness of the series is toned down, and somehow instead of makingyou cringe, you just have a great time laughing. Especially when you realizethe whole thing is one long string of in-jokes.And that the actors are COMPLETELY onboard, and having a ball.They make quite a few very rude, off-color comments, and Catwoman gets right outsexy toward Batman.At one point, Batman is dancing around like on the old series, when he danced"the Bat-tusi" in an episode.The BEST PART is what plays with the credits.YOU HAVE GOT TO WATCH THE CREDITS, ALL THE WAY TO THE END.There is a great payoff. But it is at the very last bit.I think this DVD is for grownups, or almost grownups.I'm gonna watch it again, with a fresh bowl of popcorn.Want to see how many in-jokes I may have missed.

Gekauft habe ich mir den italienischen Blu-ray-Import, kann ich nur weiterempfehlen, warum keine deutsche BD erscheint, ist mir schleierhaft, eine DVD kommt mir nicht mehr ins Heimkino.Das Cover ist leider auf italienisch aber der Inhalt ist englisch, italienisch und deutsch.Der Film hat mir sehr gefallen, witzig, mit viel Bezug auf die alte Serie (Easter Eggs), es gibt aber auch neue Überraschungen.Die deutsche Synchro ist sehr gelungen, die Sprecher machen ihre Arbeit gut, toll ist, dass auch Boris Tessmann als Robin (orig. Burt Ward) und Peter Kirchberger als Batman (orig. Adam West) wieder mit an Bord sind, so wie man es aus der TV Serie kennt.Die restlichen Synchronsprecher sind auch passend, allerdings neue, da die meisten alten schon im Ruhestand sind, oder gestorben sind aber einige haben sogar Ähnlichkeit, mit den alten deutschen Sprechern der Serie.Die Tonqualität geht in Ordnung, wie von Warner und Batman DC Animated Films auf Blu-ray gewohnt - 5.1 Dolby Digital, leider kein lossless DTS-HD MA Audio aber das ist bei so einem Retro-Werk auch nicht unbedingt wichtig.Die Bildqualität ist auch gut, scharf und kaum bis gar keine Kompressionsartefakte, sehr gute Details und Farben.Leider gibt es hin und wieder bei diversen Flächen wie Wänden oder Himmel leichte Banding-Artefakte, allerdings ist das auch auf der US-BD so, kann man aber damit leben und es ist immerhin noch besser, als auf einer DVD.Kann kaum den 2. Teil erwarten, der dieses Jahr noch kommen soll, William Shatner aka "Captain Kirk" von Star Trek spielt da den jungen 60er Two-Face.
