No it only fits the earlier style Multitools. The Fmm250 without the quick release blade change should take multitool blades by unscrewing the sanding foot and installing the blade using the washer holding the sanding foot( if it has the star pattern) or if the washer doesn't have the star pattern there should be an accessory washer with the star pattern and screw that should have come with the kit. If it is missing the replacement for the retainer washer and screw is p/n FMM250SCRKIT. Check the Fein web site.

Q: Is this low enough to clear your work using the newer flush cut blades?

The bottom washer fits the blade cup as it should. It's worked just fine for all of the Fein and Bosch blades I've bought.

Q: this up grade kit ..will it work on an older model fien 656 detail sander?

It Fits my Fien 636-1 which is older and similar and works great. I no longer have the packaging but it lists that it fits the models that do not have the star backer integral to their design. The secret to getting it not to slip as others complained about is to hold the blade when tightening so it doesn't shift position and tighten until the head assembly ocelates and stops then snug the bolt a bit more. Also make sure the star is engaged fully in the blade star. socket
