Desire
P**.
Know the meaning of desire? Yes? No? Read this anyway.
This book is a compilation of five short stories each addressing the innate human emotions of desire. The author talks about desire in different aspects- desire for food, for lust, for unrequited love, for longings of the heart and for infatuations. Each story is different, explores different meanings of the same word- desire. The stories contain unnamed characters, vivid descriptions, large number of metaphors and open ended narration. An insightful read which makes the readers see different aspects of desire- thus converting it to a positive emotion.Highly recommended, check out my full review on my blog intothedepthsofbooks.blogspot.com

Superb writing... Murakami has done justice to ...
Superb writing... Murakami has done justice to Asian sensibilities, as far as Indian readers are concerned, they will always find some bit of relevance in their personal experiences about desire!

Engrossing & Beautiful Tales of Desire!
Desire by Haruki Murakami is a collection of short stories about the deepest desires of the heart which can engulf, engross and amaze you. Murakami’s writing is bit weird yet poetic like the short waves which showers you with the different meanings every time they struck the shore I.e. your heart. Highly recommend to people who are looking to start with Murakami is begin with his short story collection.

Shoddy and a bit disappointing
My Rating- 2.5 / 5 StarsFirstly, this shoddy paperback has no 'Table of Contents' so it is difficult to find a particular story. I feel this book could have been made far better. A few more stories could have been added instead of huge quotes and blank pages at the end. Also the size is very small. All the five stories revolve around different desires like that for food, love, sex etc.The first story is about a young couple robbing a bakery at gunpoint for thrill. The second one '100% Perfect Girl' is very short but good. For the third one, 'Samsa in Love' one needs to read or at least know a bit about 'Metamorphosis' by Franz Kafka for the story is a sort of a sequel to the novel.Next one 'The Birthday Girl' is nice but has an abstract and confusing ending. The last one is the longest story that is part autobiographical.Over all, I feel this book is expensive for this price (I got it for Rs 158) even after some discount.

A collection of short stories talking about strange realities of life
Desire written by Haruki Murkami, a vintage mini is a collection of five short small storiesThe stories were about people from different walks of life talking about a certain experiences . The first one was Second bakery attack. A newly married couple who went about attacking a McDonald's to break the curse of ginger caused by his husband. Then there is a story about who had gone through metamorphosis and on waking up after transformation is unable to understand that functioning and realtors of the world. He falls for a girl who comes to repair the door lockAlso there is story of a man narrating his sad love story which actually happen to himAltogether all the 5 stories didn't have much of a storyline or any takeaway. But the book is light, easy read which we can breeze through in a day or twoSo I would rate the book 3/5

A great book to read on the go!
A set of short stories by Haruki Murkami each describing the emotions and desires of the heart that can't be put in words, those beyond the understanding of the rational mind.A strong urge, premonition or simply a feeling of emptiness are wonderfully compiled in this book.I have read this book with immense sincerity, living the lives of those characters I could relate to (most of them, actually) This book is detailed to perfection in the right spots, smooth and satisfying. It's a great book to have while you're on the go.❤Rating: 3.5/5

When Desire gets well Emoted.
This is one of the best book I read off late. Simple English, short stories, each story completely different from the other, each having an unexpected twist at the end. The book can be finished in one go, takes hardly two hours to complete. The theme of all the selected stories is human DESIRE.This is my first Murakami book, thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am looking forward to read a few more from the same author.

Dreaming Dreaming Awake!
I was wondering whether I should start reading Murakami for the first time, and thought I could give a try to a smaller one, so that I dont have to remorse of buying it, if it dissappoints me.Then what happened, is a history for me. I fall in love with this book and started reading Murakami's other books. To me, it is hard to tell about his writing. All I can say these all seem like a living dream. As if I am having a dream like experience, but I am aware that I am dreaming. As it is pointless to say a dream good or bad. We don't happen to our dreams, our dream happen to us.Murakami's writing happen to us, if we allow them to happen. It is a two way relationship.

The quality of the writing is excellent, as should be expected from Murakami
The quality of the writing is excellent, as should be expected from Murakami, but it's worth noting the material isn't original, it's cribbed from The Elephant Vanishes, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman, and Men Without Women, so if you own those three collections then don't bother with this.

Pleasant memories
Another group of slightly surreal tales...just tempting enough to make the reader continue.Very delicately written.Another masterclass in short story writing from the master.Murakami.

Lovely little stories for big imaginations.
I love this small pocket book - beware to check the stories (i didn't) some you may have already read in The Elephant Vanishes or other short Murakami collections.

Murakami is a master of the short story
Short stories that hit home in a way you can't explain. Murakami always captures emotion and memory better than you can explain it yourself. This is a great little collection.
