Excellent sound, bettet DAC than my old Macbook Air has, highly recommended for audiophile uses
I bought this to experiment with replacing the old CD changer in my boat with an old Macbook Air i have lying around. No more loading discs and having to go downstairs to pull the cartridges and replace them at sea. By deciding to keep my Clarion Marine audio system, and instead add in the Macbook Air i both saved a ton of money and now have access to a vast catalog of music instead of 12 cartridges of CD's. That was the theory. I first tested the new set up with the analog audio out of the laptop, 3.5mm plug to RCA into the equalizer. Sounds fine, works well. Then i un-packaged this USB DAC cable and tried it. WOW what a difference. I listen to jazz and classical, so my observations are relevant to those genres of music. All files i listen to are in lossless format (FLAC, AAC Loseless, etc) The analog audio out signal sounded much like the Clarion Marine CD player head unit i am replacing. Sounds fine for a vessel, but hardly studio reference quality. This DAC cable on the other hand brought out all the clarity of the bass, and the background instruments, and provided much more balance across the frequency range, even on 6 1/2 inch co-axial marine speakers!. Sounds much closer to my home system (which is a studio reference type system). At least for my application the difference is startling and obvious. I noticed from some other reviews that people complained about ground hum when the USB device was unplugged. For my system at least there is no hum, no noise at all when unplugged. The cable itself is not as armored as a lot of the other cables i have aboard, so only time will tell how well it lasts, especially in the salt air of the ocean, however as they are pretty cheap, i just ordered a spare to use as a replacement if needed. My setup is in an enclosed bridge, not directly open to the air/sun/spray. If it was to be installed in an open boat, then the entire setup would have to be in a cabin or a locker. I will update this review if i find problems with it, or it corrodes or fails. But as it stands this is a great item, and puts my old obsolete 16 year old Macbook Air to use again. It is also the only one i could find on Amazon that clearly states its bit depth and sample frequency, and is rated for 384KHz/24-bit, all the others i found were either lower rated or never stated any specific specs. -- Update Having done some more tests with this DAC, i am still very impressed. For example after down-rating the sample rate to match the original Mac DAC (96k) it still sounds like a night and day difference. Set back to 384K it shines. I also purchased another one for a different installation, and took it to the house to compare against my home stereo DAC, (high end amp, KEF studio reference speakers etc). For the money this little DAC is very impressive. OK it is not as full sounding and rich as my home DAC unit, BUT you will have to spend a boat load more money to improve on this DAC. At 384K/24 bit for less than $20, this is a steal. And if you are not using lossless source audio, a better DAC is not going to improve the sound. Also with the house system, there was no noise when unplugged, or the laptop went to sleep. No issues at all. The only drawback for others may be it does not provide the extra controls that more expensive DACs provide. But i never use such things anyway. For the money who could complain. Also for users that do have ground loop type issues, make sure your computer/laptop/device is actually grounded. I use the 3 pin plugs for the laptop power supplies, i never tried it with the 2 pin adapters.

Great quality.
Works great. Eliminated the static and buzzing the previous wires were making. Great quality sound with no electrical interference.

Just what I was looking for
Just what I was looking for. This low-cost Cubilux USB to RCA Audio Cable with DAC (digital to audio converter) in it hooks my Mac mini desktop up to my 80s vintage receiver and plays my impressive collection of MP3s on my big resonant speakers. It's plug and play. I plugged the RCA speakers into the tape sockets on the back of the receiver and the USB into a USB hub. The Mac recognized it as 'USB Audio Adapter' in the sound Output system settings. Easy as that.

USB to rca connection solutions
I connected this device with Apple lightning USB 3 with apple tablet 9, and to an old demon avr 3000 . The sound quality is great for the price. I highly recommend for those that need usb to rca connection.

Works as well as a much more expensive "headphone amplifier"
When I bought this, I was upgrading my audio system by adding input from more sources, like my Mac computer's store of iTunes, etc. So I bought this plus a more expensive, guaranteed-to-work "headphone amplifier/decoder. That worked, as expected, but so does this, for much less money and hassle. Good sound, strong stereo, crisp audio in general. I recommend it.

Nice price but high frequencies don't sound as clean as I would like.
Bargain price, small and simple, but to my ears the highs are a bit scratchy, suggesting it might not really be a 24-bit DAC conversion (comparing it with Audioengine, which of course is more than eight times the price).
