Hongdian D5X Fountain Pen Extra Fine Nib Black Color, Qin Dynasty Retro Chinese Totem Engraving Smooth Writing Pen with Converter and Pen Box Set

I received an email from the seller about this pen. I ordered this pen and received it very quickly. I ordered the extra fine nib because I am a journaler. The pen has a good amount of weight to it and lets you know it's there when you write. It's a beautiful pen. Time will tell how all the decoration wears. The nib is absolutely spectacular and writes very smoothly even for an extra fine nib. The quality of the decoration is gorgeous and not shabby in the least. The pen does post, but with the weight of the cap on the back it's a bit difficult to balance. It really doesn't need to be posted as the weight of the pen is balanced without it and feels great in the hand. This is not just a showpiece but also a good daily writer. For the price, it deserves to be in everyone's collection.

My Aurora Epsilon broke - second pen and when I through I could replace the nib part, I simply could not find it. That's when I found this Hongdian D5X Fountain Pen. I was skeptical that such an affordable pen could be as good as the reviews, but the price was right so I tried it. I will affirm the 5 star reviews! I am a fine writer and this nib is responsive and does not blot on the page. I prefer a better paper than a Moleskin notebook, but this pen works very nicely on Moleskin notebook paper, which my other pens do not. As noted, the decorations are really nice. You would think the decorations would be cheap-looking, but really they are very nicely detailed which is pretty amazing at this price! I have a few expensive pens but I do not like using those daily. I will say this one is very just-right and would recommend it without hesitation. Thank you to the vendor! The pen writes very smoothly. The nib is marked F for fine, but I would put it at medium-fine. If you write with very light pressure, the line will be finer. It appears to be a polymer/resin in body with a metal overlay. Very ornate and nicely done. It is larger in diameter and longer than had expected, but the balance works for my medium-large hands, either with the cap posted or not. Very pleased

It's a great pen that feels great in my hands and it has some weight to it which I love the most about it. It writes very well and it doesn't spit out ink everywhere. But the only problem that I have with it is that you need to have an ink syringe to fill the cartridge otherwise it doesn't work like it's supposed to.

This pen did not come in the presentation box as most of my other models of the pen did. That is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it looks, feels and performs beautifully. The pen was offered at an attractive discount.

This review will be a comparison between two Hongdian fountain pens: This one, the D5X and the A6 Piston Filler. Both pens were ordered at the same time and were ordered with the Extra Fine nib option. Upon inspecting each pen, the nibs are clearly labeled EF and both came in good condition, appearing un-inked and un-used. The D5X Extra Fine nib is smoother, wetter and noticeably finer than the Extra Fine Nib of the A6 Piston filler, which also writes dryer and hard starts. Both pens were inked with Noodler's Red/Black ink. If you are making a choice between these two pens, I recommend the D5X. It is also more comfortable in the hand due to the slightly longer length which rests against the heel of your hand more firmly. Neither pen posts well. It's unfortunate because I like piston fillers and the styling of the A6 better than this one. I prefer a more European gothic medieval aesthetic over the Eastern inspiration of this pens design. I rated the A6 3 stars.

The pen is beautiful. BUT...I had a hard time finding out about refill cartridges. After multiple questions on the Internet, I finally found some answers and ordered some refills. The first one I tried is marked Hongdian 3.4mm but it did not work. I pulled a second one out of the box, and it did fit tight and work. I really want to make this a five star, but it remains to be seen whether or not the NEXT Hongdian refill works. Two months later: I am UPPING my review to FIVE stars. Now that I am figuring this out, I love using this pen. It writes so smoothly, feels so good, and the refills are working great.

I have lots of good brand fountain pens like Montblanc, Pelikan, Gvfc, Visconti, Lamy etc. This pen is unbelievably good as well. Nib is soft, ink doesn’t spread. Material is plastic however if you are prioritising the nib quality this is definitely a good choice!

As well as being beautifully designed and decorated this pen is a pleasure to write with. Very solidly made and when used with the cap off is very well balanced. With the cap on however it is way off balance and uncomfortable.

Ottima qualità. Fattura perfetta. Le scrittura scorrevole e abbastanza umida. Ho solo riscontrato qualche difficoltà iniziali a fare uscire l'inchiostro dal pennino, ma penso sia normale come primo utilizzo. Per il resto tutto perfetto, non mi si è bloccato il flusso di inchiostro neanche una volta. L'estetica la rende davvero una penna unica. Sicuramente un piccolo tesoro.

Works great - nib is nicely crafted, doesn't "bite" the paper(even when using standard paper not made for fountain pens). Ink flow is consistent, and there has been no leaks. The pen has a good weight to it - but it is on the larger size, so beware that it doesn't fit in all EDC fountain pen holders.

Ornate but incredibly well crafted. Best nib: soft, bouncy, smooth.

Beautiful, feels like quality, a big pen, feels solid and writes well!
