Works as stated
Getting on a bit and really don't want to be under any car fiddling with sump nuts.I have now used this on 3 different family vehicle's without any issues. Just suck out all the old oil and then fill with new oil. You can then use the emptied oil cans to pour and fill up with the old oil and dispose of correctly. No fuss, no issues and I didn't make a mess. Great bit of kit.

Does what it needs to do with great ease
I wanted an oil change for my 2002 Range Rover 4.4 V8, and my local independent garage that had been looking after it had shut down. Being quoted £200-£300 for a simple oil and filter change, and having to travel to drop and pickup the car just didn't seem worth it.In the old days, I had plenty of time to get underneath the car and mess about with sump plugs. I thought I would give this 9 litre version a go, since the RR holds about 8.5 litres of oil. There are three pipes that come with it. One goes into the unit itself, and the other two are different sized pipes that go down your dipstick pipe. You simply choose the largest one you can get down there. The tubes are long enough to go up quite high on the RR, so they should be ok for most other cars. It's best to warm up the engine so the oil isn't too thick. Personally I would remove the oil filter first and allow it all to drain back into the sump.Simply feed the pipe into the dipstick pipe as far as it will go and start pumping. It took about 10 mins to get all of the oil out. You start to hear air being sucked out through the pipes when you're nearly there. It's worth poking the pipe around the sump to pick up any remenants. I also used the pipe to pick up excess oil from the oil filter housing. After replacing the filter, filling up the oil again, I was done.If you remove the rubber washer from the cylinder (where the pipe goes into the unit), then the hole becomes a spout. I simply poured the old oil into the used oil cans with a funnel and took to the dump. All in, it took about an hour. I expect I could do it quicker next time, and will do my oil changes on other cars myself in future. There was no mess, I didn't spill a drop of oil anywhere, and I didn't get covered in oil myself.Cost of 10 litres of fully synthetic oil = less than £50. Cost of filter = £11. Even adding the cost of this pump, it's still lass than half or a third of the price of a garage.I should have bought this years ago.

Fit for purpose and gives excellent results
I have attempted to use this unit. In the proscribed manner Upon a Range Rover 5 LitreWithout success. No oil is extracted.I have sent a detailed report to the supplier And am currently awaiting a replyUPDATEI found an inadequate seal between the hose on the unit. And the provided pipe on the vehicleOnce fixed. By using the 10mm Main suction pipe directly to the provided pipe. The unit behaved splendidly In line with positive reviews from other buyers.Excellent value and superbly constructedIMPORTANT to read the clearly written instructions.

Got me out of a tight spot, but make time for this!
This was a handy tool to allow me to drain oil from a damaged sump, couldn't remove the plug so had to drain from the top. The supplied tubes worked well to get down the dipstick but once the vaccum pressure was applied it took a long, LONG time to drain 5 litres.Maybe a motorised pump would be quicker but for the price this gets the job done... eventually! It may be to do with the viscosity of the oil I had but will definitely use again when the need arises, easy to empty but you can't take it apart to clean inside, once used for oil some residue will remain.

Essential for quick, clean oil changes
I bought this after reading that draining the oil via the sump plug was a messy affair on a landrover discovery 4.After putting it to use, I can confirm this is a great bit of kit for the home mechanic. As others have mentioned the tubes could be longer and in all honesty the next time I will use some silicone tube off cuts to connect to the drain tube as it wasn't a perfect seal. However after about 20 mins all 6 litres of oil was out, ready to swap out the filter and add new oil. This is a completely painless and really clean way to complete an oil change. The unit seems really solid and has good suction despite the earlier mentioned issue. I highly recommend it. Will certainly be using it for my other cars as it saves scrambling underneath them.

People using it wrong
Well this product is great , after seeing pictures on the reviews the pipe length put me off a little bit , any case when the item came I soon realised that everybody writing a bad review about the pipe length had not bothered to open the manual where it states you have 1 main pipe and the other 2 have an adapter and are the extraction pipes , all you have 2 do is simply but the main pipe into the unit , and attach either of the other pipes onto the end, not does this only give you a better seal and suction from using the correct pipe but it also gives you all the length you will ever need , hope this helps people that can't be bothered to read the manual of the product

Does the job
Used this to change the oil on my 2003 VW Transporter. Some have complained that the pipes are too short, the pipes supplied can be joined together giving enough length. Requires a bit of pumping to get it started, then a bit more every 30 seconds to keep it going , but took the oil out in no time with no mess. As my oil filter is off the bottom of the engine I still took the sump plug out and got maybe half a mug of oil out, if my oil filter was a cartridge one that could be accessed from the top of the engine I probably wouldn’t bother taking the plug out saving more time. Managed to decanter the used oil into the empty oil bottle after the oil change. Works well and with use every 6 months I can see it lasting a long time.
