I have been using McAfee virus protection software for years, annually installing the upgraded software from Amazon. I know McAfee slowed down my system, especially when running a full background scan. I just expected it to happen (even on my newer Win 10 computers), and always ended up activating about half of the McAfee features because I found the things like the browser extensions, for example, didn't always perform well and again really slowed down my system. I assumed that was just the price you paid for good security. Boy, was I wrong.This year, I did some web research and read the Amazon customer reviews on different products and decided it was time for a change. I went with Kaspersky, and I am so happy I did! The install was a breeze, and, I started running the software with ALL of the features turned on, figuring I could always disable some of them when it bogged down my system. But that never happened. I am happy to report that every single feature of Kaspersky software is still activated on my systems and that my computer is operating at optimum speed, even during full background scans. I am completely blown away. All of these years I had been sacrificing decent performance with McAfee, and now I know that is not necessary. You just have to find the right virus protection product. I have also used Avast (both free and paid versions) and Norton, within the last 5 to 7 years. I can't speak for those products' current versions, but in the past, they both bogged down my system, just like McAfee.Last year I did go back to give Norton another try. If you are a technophobe or just don't want to do or think about anything, then that product would work okay for you. But do remember that product is a 'one size fits all.' that said everyone has unique needs and wants, even from different devices. For that and many other reasons i am firmly back in the Kaspersky camp. I don't need or want a dumped down product.FYI the reason i switched from Kaspersky to Norton last year is that I got very annoyed at Kaspersky. Three months before my license was to expire i started getting spam emails from them on an every other day basis. Evidently i was not the only one ticked off by that. So in this software version they have made it fairly simple to disable all annoying spam. To do so follow these steps;1 - Open Kaspersky2 - Look to the bottom right corner to see a gear (settings icon)3 - Click on 'additional'4 - Click on 'notifications'5 - The bottom four boxes, uncheck them all and you're good to go! no spam no more :-)Kaspersky now does so much more than just block viruses or perform scans. It is a solid extremely well coded bit of software. Kaspersky's virus and malware protection has a great reputation in the industry, too. I am a new fan. This is a great product and I recommend everyone give it a try (if you go their website, you can download a trial version for free). Awesome
