Q: The description says that it's to son from dad? where does it say that on the necklace?

It is generic. It can be either from a Mom or a Dad. The tag dos not say from Mom or Dad, but it does specify its to my Son. It is very nice quality.

Q: Is this actually engraved or just ink printed on the necklace?

The words aren't engraved, but it isn't just printed either. I don't know how to explain it but could even be a laser printing process. I can tell you though that when I received it, the tag felt much more substantial than I anticipated and my son wears it all the time and has given it a beating. We just checked it out to write this response and the writing is still all intact. I think you'll be happy with the item if you purchase it.
