When I opened the box it smelled like Ikea or home depot, the nice wood smell! This was easy to assemble with two exceptions: 1st- one of the leg wood holes wasn't drilled all the way through so I had to drill it out myself before the screw could go in and 2nd-one of the metal holes in the seat would not accept the nail. I had to mess around with it it until all of a sudden a long thin piece of metal that looked like a staple came flying out. I was able to assemble the bar to seat after that. That being said this piece is so nice! It looks like a more expensive furniture and it's lightweight but not so lightweight that it slides or falls over easily. I like that the cushion extends over the edge because I fidget a lot when I sit and I am constantly changing leg positions so with this I'm comfortable and not having hard surface on my arches or heels. I got the lighter color wood and it's a nice color and smooth finish, does not look cheap. The removable cover gets pinned down when you tighten the screws so you have to loosen them to get it off but you could Scotchgard it to be able to wipe dirt away instead of unscrewing ever time you want to clean. It looks so minimal and nice I'm ordering another to make a set.

I purchased this as a vanity chair for my daughter as a birthday gift and she loves it! Excellent quality and nice looking! It is quite strong and features non-skid pads on the feet.
