Treasure hunting is all about research. Jars of gold coins are hard to find. Even harder if the treasure hunter doesn't do proper research. Ever wanted to learn how to find virgin coinhunting spots? Or get leads on buried caches of coins? The research methods are presented herein, but only for those who want to learn the craft. Within these pages you will find wisdom and knowledge of how to do proper research for treasure hunting and metal detecting. Written by a seasoned professional who is retiring from the field and wants to show others how to be great at researching treasure leads and coinhunting sites. Chapters of interest: -Obtaining Treasure Leads -Purging Treasure Leads -A Primer on Internet Searching -Research Tools -Authority Rank or "Should I trust that guy?" -Map Resources -Geneology -State Library -Research Workflow -How to Do Proper Reconnaissance -Treasure Sense and Common Sense -Hunt Locally, Research Locally -Record Keeping -Example Workflows -Wizard's First Rule and the KGC 214 pages Review: Great book on finding treasure (not *locations* where you might find treasure) - Although the focus of this book was a bit different than I had expected I have to be honest that the information on researching where treasure may be located was very informative. From my perspective, in case anyone else is in the same boat I was when I bought the book, this does NOT focus on how to find interesting locations to dig. As someone definitely on the beginner end of the MD spectrum I was interested in how to research locations like one room school houses or old fairgrounds. I'm not looking to get rich but I am interested in detecting in areas that have some historical significance. This book pretty much focuses on exactly the opposite. Even going so far as to say not to detect at an old school house or the old 1850 house in your town because the real treasure won't be there. The focus here is on how to find that mason jar of silver coins the old miser buried or other caches or mother loads that are out there. It's about going to the library and looking through microfiche for news articles about rich parents that disowned their kids and then died suddenly (possibly leaving a buried treasure near their house). Or verifying legends of bank robberies where the loot was never found, tracking the movements of the robbers to try and figure out where it might be. It's a very good description of techniques that will help you find the big score, and to be honest I used some of these techniques to find some more interesting places to hunt. Bottom line, I would say this is not for beginners though beginners would be able to get some use out of the information. Review: excellent information. info on deep-web is worth the book. - excellent information and resource guide. in-depth and with more info on research, than i can digest.

Great book on finding treasure (not *locations* where you might find treasure)

Overall, this is a good work, but given authors required pre-reading list it is 4-Stars!
This is a good book on how to research and hunt for "treasure" as defined by โThe Treasure Hunter's Manual #6โ Paperback โ 1977 by Karl Von Mueller (Author), and available at Amazon.com! This why I gave this book a four star rating. The author simply recommends reading some very hard to find old books, such as: -โUnited States Treasure Atlas Volume 1 Alabama-Alaska-Arizona-Arkansas 1st Editionโ by Thomas Terry (Author) -โThe Treasure Hunter's Manual #6โ Paperback โ 1977 by Karl Von Mueller (Author) -โTreasure Hunter's Manual #7 Paperbackโ โ June, 1974 by Karl Von Mueller (Author) -โThe WPA Guide to 1930s Alabama First Editionโ by Harvey H. Jackson III (Editor) and also available at Amazon.com. However they can be quite hard to get. Furthermore, they are very old books and the author does not offer more up to date works such as some of the following for example: -"The Metal Detecting Bible: Helpful Tips, Expert Tricks and Insider Secrets for Finding Hidden Treasures" by Brandon Neice | Jan 26, 2016 -"Metal Detecting: The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Uncovering History, Adventure, and Treasure" by Mark Smith | Nov 15, 2016 and also available at Amazon.com. The author does however, recommend the DeLorme Atlas of one's state, such as: โDeLormeยฎ Alabama Atlas & Gazetteer Map โ February 1, 2010โ by Delorme Publishing (Author), DeLorme (Editor), null (Illustrator) as well as the library and genealogy records in conducting "treasure" hunting research. Overall, this is a good work, but given authors required pre-reading list it is 4-Stars. Would recommend, additionally, works on the geology of one's targeted "treasure" hunting area or state such as: -โLost Worlds in Alabama Rocks: A Guide to the State's Ancient Life and Landscapes (2nd Edition)โ Hardcover โ 2013 by Jim Lacefield (Author) & available at Amazon.com

Great treasure serch book!
Very well written book with many tips on how and where to do your research. Some times it tskes years to collect all the information to narrow your search before you ever put a detector or shovel in the ground.

How to do research or treasure hunting and metal detecting.
It is Ok but but I am aware of most of the tips that he has mentioned in this book, having been a treasure hunter for many years and implimented these little hints to find treasue for decades. These tips have been know for those of us that are in the Circle, but glad that he put them out for others to be successful in treasure hunting. Also, please have your printer correct paragraph on page 59.Starts out with the statement on sub-collections and goes on. with American Memory. Goes on to tell about Loc webstite and then ENDS on as. Paragraph is NOT complete.

I LOVE THIS BOOK !!!!
This is a book that will keep me studying and improving for probably a year. It has pointed me in directions that I never suspected even existed. I had never heard of the author prior to purchasing this book so no one can accuse me of trying to give a boost to my buddy. I will be his first customer if Mr. von Helsing decides to write another book in this field of "How to Research-------".

Great Informational Resource for the Hobby
A surprisingly helpful book though it may not be exactly what you expect. Knocked one star off due the short length where some more details on specifics could have been given. For example, the author recommends various freeware that is useful but he does not exactly say how or when to use it for a given task. There is a little detail on this but not much. Overall this is a great book for the detectorist who wants to get more serious about the hobby but you will have to do much more reading/learning on your own with tips and ideas from the book. As the title suggests this book is very heavy on real research and has nothing about 'how to detect' once you get there. The aim is getting yourself on a sweet site and you should know what to do when you get there. If you have ever found out the age of an area you want to hunt then you have already done some research. This book goes way deeper than that and adopts the process that one would think a detective or a genealogist might employ. The author is a professional and his methods go deep. One nugget of truth from this book is that you need to spend more time researching in the comfort of the indoors and less time digging up trash and he shows how to go about doing that. Be aware that much of this is dedicated to major cache hunts and not just looking for lost jewelry or coins. All of the methods are valuable though for most any kind of historical research geared toward this hobby. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve and I have to admit that the research is quite enjoyable.
