Dome Car Tailgate Tent for SUV, 2-3 People Capacity, Breathable Rear Tent, Freestanding With Floor, Waterproof, Durable, for Camping and Self-Propelled (Green)

This Dome Tent for fitting over a car tailgate or rather the open hatch ‘lid’ so to speak, is quite handy for days out as its ideal to sit under, either in own supplied chairs/seats or on the ground. It states its ‘for 2 to 3 people’ capacity but this depends on the people's size really, but we find that two comfortably seems ideal plus either a toddler or possibly a dog maybe. It comes in a plastic canvas type carry/storage bag with everything inside complete with a diagram type sheet of instructions, which is in English plus there are five other similar sheets in different languages stapled together . In fact the ‘instruction’ sheet could be better written but no matter, we eventually got it sorted. The rods clip together to go into the actual cover and form the desired shape eventually and then making it fit your vehicle - in our case a Ford Fiesta. It does work in a funny sort of way and no doubt over time we will perfect the setting up time into single figures minutes-wise instead of double figures initially now we know how it works or goes together. As to the actual tent construction, the sewing is not too clever in places and we have trimmed off assorted loose ends. Final thoughts being the idea is good, the instructions are dire - they look as if they were printed on an old style duplicator of years ago and quite small to read - but the concept is good but attention to detail, or quality control, seems to be missing and at the current price of £174 this is vastly overpriced being our collective opinion.

This was sold as a waterproof tent, yet not until a test pitch was it obvious that the top seams, far from being waterproof, had extra needle holes and the fabric integrity was compromised. The pitching instructions called for the use of 6 tent pegs, yet only 4 were supplied, and when the tent was finally pitched, it turns out there are only 4 places a peg can be used, so the instructions were either inaccurate or for some other tent!All in all an unsatisfactory product .

The idea of a tent attachment for the back of a car is a nice one but I don’t feel this has quite perfected the idea. The instructions are just about ok but they could be a lot better. However, with a bit of experimentation a a lot of experience with similar tent mechanisms we got there in the end. I imagine it will be a lot faster the second time.Once erected it isn’t bad and provides shelter from rain and sun together with extra storage space. The workmanship is not fantastic and some of the stitching is below an acceptable standard. I suspect there are a few weak spots that would not stand up to heavy rain.I really like the idea of this and will definitely persevere with it. Part of the problem is that it isn’t designed for a specific car but rather a range of cars built in a similar style and so the designers are shooting at a moving target.This is a great idea that will benefit from a few design tweaks, better instructions and improved quality control. It also needs to be cheaper as this is very expensive for what it is.
