Best phone purchase I've made
After seeing a tear down video. I chose to spend more than normal to get the skyline as my new phone. (Didn't NEED it but my moto stylus was starting to show its age)TLDR: really good phone for your average android user and fantastic self repairabilityFor reference i usually stuck to last model moto phones cause they were cheap and pretty solid specs for day to day. But i watch a LOT of content on my phone (no tv at the moment) so a cracked screen is an absolute no go. But because of cost it was more economical to just buy the next moto phone instead of replacing the screen. With this i can just fix it myself for a reasonable price? And keep warranty? Absolutely I'm taking that. And now I'll have no real reason to upgrade until the software itself dies which even with a couple year update commitment it'll probably take a bit longer to actually become unusable. Maybe by that time they'll take a page from framework and sell upgrade boards even.As for the phone itself. A little different android launcher than i was used to but really just layout and widget design. Very responsive and more than enough for what i need. I do have some specific lag issues/ bug with YouTube but its ONLY when playing a video on the YouTube app so it could just be the app problem.Lastly the detox mode they advertise? Honestly fantastic. Its basically "do not disturb" and app pausing on steroids. You can choose individual apps and leave on needed notifications. And it will completely lock them from access until the set time runs out or you turn off detox. It even has a "Hard lock" detox mode where it will not let you turn it off until the time is up or you completely shutdown the phone.

HMD phone dissappointment, and Amazon dragging feet on refunds
the very day I received this item, the seller offered the international version on Amazon with 12gb ram instead of 8gb, and for a sale price that was not much more money. I phoned HMD directly, to ask if functionality and warranty would be different on the international vs US model. I was assured that there was no difference, that the international would offer same functionality (only better, with 12GB ram). I initiated a return of this one (taking advantage of the posted free returns policy), and sent it back... tracking indicated it was received in Las Vegas (location of Amazon return center) 10 DAYS AGO, but I am still waiting for a refund!!! Meanwhile, I received the HMD Skyline 12GB RAM international model, and discovered it would not pair with Android Auto on my VW. I called HMD tech support, they patiently walked me through multiple trouble shoots/reboots, and so forth, before giving up. Nine days after that one was received in Las Vegas, I am waiting for a refund. I have now bought a Samsung S25 with 12GB and 256GB memory; it works flawlessly. Amazon is ussualy solid, but they continue to let me down on these two returns. If you live near a Best Buy, just go there to buy your phone.

Very nice mid-ranger, alot of pros, some cons
After a little over a month with this device it has proven to be very indicative of anything someone may want out of a phone of this price tier. Superb display, more than modest chipset and ram (extension is nice as well of course), and it's repair-focused design adds the most for me anyway. However, it has some annoyances, some more general, others possibly from my own pedantic/idealistic wants. The most glaring of which is (as many others have noted) the short support period, which is not that far departed from others on its class, but becomes more of a primary issue when the device is heavily marketed as being user repairable for longevity.Second is a tie between a bit of a glitchy UI when the screen is forced into 60 Hz mode and the power/fingerprint button's paint chipping so early in its life.Third is likely more of a personal preference and/or niche electronics ideology, but the screen is much too big, it is quite unwieldy when used with one hand, both from being a bit slippery and its sheer size yeilding it to be difficult even for those with larger hands (I am a large in most gloves, and still cannot easily reach alot of the screen with one hand without some manoeuvering). For context, my previous device was a Pixel 3a, which has about a 5.5 inch screen. I did try to find a repair-focused, sub 6-inch phone with a modest chipset and screen, but save for maybe the iPhone SE (minus repair-focus for this one) they no longer exist.Overall, superb build quality, very good for content creators as advertised with its 50 MP selfie cam and large, detailed, high refresh rate display.

Ordered 2 and satisfied
I ordered two, one for granddaughter and one for her father. Ordered because my granddaughter is hard on phones and had to replace two. My son has repaired many cell phones in the past and said this is the best phone as you can do repairs yourself. Has all the features need on an android phone. Both son and granddaughter love the phones so far.

A phone AND replacement both arrived already opened.
There is something deeply concerning about these phones. I purchased one and it arrived with the manufacturer's seals broken. Amazon was willing to replace it for me and was quick to send out a replacement but the second one arrived with the same manufacturing seals broken again. I am unsure why this is happening but I will be returning the phone and be very leery of what I purchase from Amazon in the future. I cannot find anywhere in the listing where it states that these phones are open-box, used, or refurbished. According to the listing, they are sold new as far as I can tell. These are sold directly from Amazon, according to the listing. I have reached out to the manufacturer about these and will report back on what they say.
