"A bible for Red Wings fans." — Mitch Albom In The Franchise: Detroit Red Wings , take a more profound and unique journey into the history of an iconic team. This thoughtful and engaging collection of essays captures the astute fans’ history of the franchise, going beyond well-worn narratives of yesteryear to uncover the less-discussed moments, decisions, people, and settings that fostered the team's iconic identity. Through wheeling and dealing, mythmaking and community building, explore where the organization has been, how it got to prominence in the modern NHL landscape, and how it’ll continue to evolve and stay in contention for generations to come. Red Wings fans in the know will enjoy this personal, local, in-depth look at hockey history. Review: Great gift for a Red Wings fan - Got it for my Dad for his birthday, he was really excited and had been thinking about getting it himself because he heard it was good. Review: Excellent, as usual - Another superb book about the Red Wings by Helene St. James. Informative, incredibly interesting and well written. She is also not afraid to bring up a question I also have. How is her blunderingly incompetent brother (Bruce Norris) in the Hockey Hall of Fame and Stanley Cup winner Marguerite Norris isn’t? With all her excellent books and columns, here’s hoping one day Ms St. James is enshrined.

Needed more proofreading.
Great content but it needed to be proofread. A lot of errors and I’m not talking about facts. I had to reread portions to make sense of the sentence. I still would recommend it for its stories.

Excellent Read
It’s a really great read, loaded with information from every decade. I loved reading about how everything started, and how the franchise grew and grew. Highly recommend.

Good book
This is a nice book but there are a several errors when referencing the dates that something happened. I can't say how many errors, but as my husband was reading it, I kept hearing him say they have this date wrong and he would explain why it couldn't have been the date listed in the book. So just don't quote the dates to anyone and enjoy the Red Wing history.

A Must-Read for Any Red Wings Fan!
I recently read "The Franchise: Detroit Red Wings: A Curated History of the Red Wings" by Helene St. James, and I can't recommend it highly enough! This book offers a unique and engaging journey through the history of one of hockey's most iconic teams. St. James goes beyond the well-known stories and delves into the lesser-known moments, decisions, and people that have shaped the Red Wings' legacy. The collection of essays is thoughtful and well-researched, providing a fresh perspective on the team's history. Whether you're a long-time fan or new to the world of hockey, this book is a treasure trove of information and anecdotes that will deepen your appreciation for the Red Wings. It's a perfect addition to any hockey fan's library.

Tentacles up!
From cover to cover, “The Franchise” provides insights large and small about one of the NHL’s Original Six franchises. If you think you know everything about the Detroit Red Wings … well, Helene St. James’ book will prove that you do not. And you will appreciate that. She has a gift for storytelling and finding hidden gems. (She was only the second woman to be voted Michigan’s sportswriter of the year!) This book will be the perfect holiday gift for the Wings Nut on your list. Plus, the cover features the best use of a giant tentacle since Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” Instead of stars, I’d give “The Franchise” eight tentacles.

Instant Classic
Another slam dunk or whatever the hockey equivalent is from H. St. James - my favourite NHL writer. A solid read that brings back a lot of memories.
