Neriume Japanese Umeboshi Paste in Plastic Tube, 1.41oz by Yamachu

I'd been making my own umeboshi paste, which takes a small amount of effort. Thought I'd give this a try just to taste the difference. (Granted, it is a bit expensive, as another reviewer noted.) This stuff is terrible. It's got a sharp, acrid character reminiscent of a harsh acid. I'm not sure why other reviewers reckon this stuff is edible. I tried it plain, on rice, and on grilled chicken, and then threw the rest in the garbage. The caustic, salty, and acid flavors overwhelm any ume flavor, and while umeboshi are clearly supposed to be salty and sour, this paste has no balance. Make your own paste by mashing or blending a pile of whole, pitted umeboshi, and fill an old glass jar...it lasts indefinitely, so you don't have to do it often, and your taste buds will thank you.

I was looking forward to receiving this, having been a big fan of umeboshi paste beginning when I owned a restaurant 30 years ago and used it in our Japanese dishes..I couldn't tell from the fluid ounce measurement how TINY this would be. For ten bucks. TEN BUCKS.Amazing rip-off.Oh, it tastes okay, but w-a-y too expensive. WAY too expensive.

You can get it cheaper elsewhere. Taste was average.

The paste is easy to squirt the pickled plum into the middle of a rice ball. My kids love the paste - no seeds to mess with. I like the paste because I don't have to deal with seeds left in the container.

Came all the way from Japan undamaged with a Japanese treat enclosed! I use this product to raise my chronically low pH.

Yummy on an apple or cucumber, arrived quickly. Helps fight off those potato chip cravings, but use in sparingly!

Terrible - too salty to eat. Throw it away. Don't waste your time
