FIREPOT Chilli con Carne and Rice (Extra Large) - Healthy Dehydrated Expedition Food

Corner shop value tinned food is better than this product
This meal was what I would imagine prison food to be like. I am far from being a fussy eater...I eat tinned and processed food daily yet I found this meal hard to palette. It was bland, watery, tasteless and with a clumsy taste of cheap chilli powder to try and fool the consumer into believing the product description advertised and I quote..."some serious depth of flavour". In contrary to the sellers description I would surmise this meal to be taking a couple of chunks of tinned value chilli con carne along with a small amount of tinned value kidney beans then stodging the product out with nasty cheap rice. Finished with a sprinkle of cheap nasty chilli powder. No flavour whatsoever. Waste £10 one one yourself and you will see what I mean. I am sure that if I were up a mountain, freezing to death and starving this Meal would be a god send but after trying it out I would without hesitation spend £1 on some instant noodles and a flapjack bar.

Edible but bland
So the directions on this product instructed me to add water up to level 6, from my previous experience I always add less so added around 4/5ish however the meal was still mega watery so firepot might need to rethink their instructions...The texture of the meal was spot on! however it literally tasted of nothing. Don't get me wrong I would eat this if I was camping but by no way would I look forward to having the meal. They had the spice there and the texture but it seems they forgot any flavouring/seasoning?If you're looking for a dried camping meal you can look forward to I recommend Real Turmat over this, much more flavour, colour and the tastes are spot on.But if you don't care about taste and just need nutrition then go for it, this ticks all the boxes being light and simple to use (just add less water than instructed)

Long life and edible, but lacking in taste.
These packets have a long life, on account of their dried state and the inclusion of an oxygen absorber sachet. When re-hydrated, the contents are edible and filling, but in taste terms merely "OK". It doesn't really taste like Chilli - more like unseasoned rice and beans.Good as an emergency standby, but not something you'd actually choose to eat.

Lightweight, easy to prepare and tasty
I normally hate dehydrated food, this however tastes great. For me perhaps a bit more salt, and I'd add less water next time, but apart from that I was really impressed.

It was easy to pack and prepare
I purchased this for my son to take on his Duke of Edinburgh expedition. It was lighter weight and higher calorific value than the alternative brand he used for his practice camp. The firepot meal was apparently much tastier than the alterative and very filling. It was easy to pack and prepare. He will definitely be using them for expeditions in the future.

Not great
Didn't compare well to freeze dried meals from other big brands. Quite bland and not rich enough. Kidney beans didn't rehydrate property despite adding extra water and leaving for far longer than the instructions stipulate.
