Yes. The safe ones are made of *ethanol*. Ones made of *methanol* are harmful and possibly deadly if used for food grilling directly in their flame. Same rules for using indoors - ethanol is usually fine, methanol not without LOTS of ventilation (or using very few cans in a *very* large area? Dunno for sure on that one.).
