Great reel for medium salt water lure fishing. When I saw the 4000 size I thought it was a bit small for 40-60g lure fishing but it is fine and casts beautifully and like all reels, provided you spool braid properly under tension you shouldn't get wind knots. I did at first but after retrieving 60g lures the braid was under the correct tension and I had no more problems . If you're a perfectionist You may (as with other reels ) have to use the washers supplied to adjust the spool height to get the correct line profile on the spool but this is a two minute job if needed . I had avoided Penn reels after a bad buy 20 years ago but I now have this and a surf blaster both great reels at the price .

Solid made reel , great for casting with my diawa rod off the rocks and plenty of power for winding up the fish especially when fishing for mackerel

Salt or fresh water, Penn reels outperform. I fish the salt (the Gulf of Mexico) and have purchased Battle III & IV reels, 6000 & 8000. 6000 works well on 9' & 10' rods and the 8000 on 10' to 12' rods. I find Penn reels to be reliable, smooth with superior tension and drag. Also the III and IV LE rod and reel combos look, feel and perform perfectly. And no, I don't work for Penn...(I wish). Tight lines!
