When first arrived , the firmware was extremely outdated and I though, "damb this tablet UI is ancient." After installing the latest firmware it is absolutely incredible. (Be aware, you need to update the firmware around 5 times consecutively) it's not just one click and latest firmware is installed) The screen clarity is better than my MacBook Pro retina, the speed of multi tasking is fantastic. The UI and UX is beyond simple and intuitive. I have given the item 4 out of 5 rather than 5 out of 5 for two reasons. Firstly, Design: The screen to body ratio is approximately 65%, I would have preferred 75%+ but not really an issue just a thought. The second, unification: having a separate App Store system, there are a couple of apps and magazines I purchased on the native android store that I now need to re purchase. Amazon if you fix these two issues you have a customer for life.

The 3rd generation fire the HDX in 7” and 8.9” screensizes are great quality tablets, although almost of pensionable age in computing terms.Can be tweaked to make a more usable android tablet than it is straight out of the box. You will however be limited to using apps and software for no later than android 4.1, latest version as Is 10 as of Jan 2021.Most restrictive and reason for most moans is the lack of google play store, however that is very easily overcome by using alternative “android app stores” more often than not you soon realise the apps you have are improved versionsAs ever care needs to be taken when using software titles (apps) from any source.Today that will consist of an anti virus/malware protection package. Particularly if ever infected by ransomware. Fire HDX is still attractive mainly as it outperforms many of today’s models.Expect to pay a little more than similar or even newer well known brands, for the improved performance, not HD get HDX

An absolutely stunning device. Why this has not received a hardware upgrade since 2014 is beyond me, but i guess it makes sense since Amazon doesn't normally do much in the way of premium hardware, and this, in every way, is that. It feels like a truly and properly done piece of kit, and the fact it still receives software updates, and that it is /still/ a more high end piece of hardware than the highest end of their new devices should tell you what you need to know. Got this on a lightning deal as a refurb, and at the money i paid for it, it is absolutely unbeatable.If i were to make one comment, it would be that there is no expansion slot in the device, but... it's kind of nitpicky. The reasoning for why it doesn't have one is entirely sensible: This is an Amazon device, built to operate best if you have a Prime account. If you do, it works just fine without the expansion slot (though it could perhaps be nice for a long trip where you are offline, but, again, nitpicking).

Gutted, wanted something with plenty of memory; saw the 'what people buy with this' SD card for fire hd and thought it was the answer. Stupid me; should have read the detail. Should have bought the 64 GBP
