I wanted this after watching a recent programme about the artist.the book gave me all the info I wanted and great pictures of his art.

The book was more of a biography than an example of his work. Very interesting though. Rather too many of his self portraits for my liking.

I love Schieles work and i got this because it was cheap. The book is ok there is lots of text and images, but doesn't blow you away. It seems like something you would find in a school. I love my artists books but this one does not do his work any justice. So if i were you look for a better book as i am.

Dead of influenza at age 27/28, the number and range of works he managed to paint in that short time span is amazing. Although I'm not a big fan of his landscapes , I do love the Klimt-inspired work and those stylized representations of the human form that have come to be recognized uniquely as Schiele's own. This book does a good job of showcasing the variety of Sciele's art, but more so than most Taschen books, it contains considerable narrative discussing the artist's work, resulting in smaller and fewer depictions of that art.
