◙ What is a Strop? A Leather Strop is used for the final stage of sharpening and to maintain a sharp cutting edge. The function is to polish the edge and work off any burr left behind by sharpening stones. The leather strop has been securely mounted to our MDF fiberboard wood rigid base and PRELOADED with our Green Compound while still warm. ◙ Using a Strop. Strops are frequently used with polishing compounds, the extremely fine abrasives that give a mirror polish to an edge. The surface of our strop is preloaded with our Green Compound and leveled later. Hold the bevel against the surface of the strop with LIGHT PRESSURE and move the blade away from the cutting edge. Turn the blade over and do the same on the other side. Never move the blade toward the cutting edge as it will cut into the strop resulting in dulling of the edge and damage to the leather. ◙ Why preloaded with Compound? Knife & tools enthusiasts prefer to use a compound, so we do that work for you. In a future if you need more Compound we recommend using our Medium Universal Green Compound or another quality one ◙ Suede or smooth side? This Leather Strop Block comes with the suede side up. When using our suede strops, our especially short and pressed nap of the suede holds onto compound well allowing to be loaded easily when it is still warm. ◙ YOU CAN ALWAYS remove all types of residual grease, dirt or old compound with fine sandpaper & reload with new compound when needed, but it will be quite late. Superior quality
I got one of these over a month ago. When it arrived, I immediately put the preloaded compulound to work on a work knife. At first, I thought the strop seemed too dry. Turns out there was just a ton of the compound on in that eventually worked it's way into the leather after several uses. Now no longer seems dry.The leather seems a higher grade than another very popular preloaded strop available here in Amazon and I can say without a doubt, Upon Leather stands behind their product.I'll be ordering another one from Upon Leather again when I need a new one.TLDR; This strop keeps even my M390 steel crazy sharp with little effort, the leather quality is very good and there's no shortage of compound.

Makes blades sharp
I feel like a pro using this thing to hone an edge on my axe and knives. This is sturdy and well put together, and works good without even clamping it down. But for the most part I put it in my bench vise just to hold it sturdy.

Customer Service!
Received the product quickly... it looks great... BUT I had some questions as I'm very new to the world of quality kitchen cutlery. Got a top quality knife and for my investment, I wanted to take the best care I could of it. Tossed those questions on UponLeather's website and got a response that was copious in it's details. Very unusual for a product of modest cost to have someone stand behind it to make a customer comfortable. I got much more than a block of wood with some leather adhered to it... I got a craftsman standing behind it!
