The first one I bought failed straight out of the box, the second froze up & failed after one day.I think there is an issue with the 2 TB version, I have had the 1 TB version for at least 4 years without any issues.I will buy a 1 TB version again but if that fails I will switch brands.Other reviews mention the slowness of data transfer on the 2TB version & noticed that on the second of these before it failed.They make a clicking noise when they fail, as though it can't get started.

I wouldn't normally buy a drive like this, but during the covid lockdown a lot of more standard models weren't available. This one was on short delivery times and was in stock at Amazon. I paid a bit more (£68 I think) for a 2TB model compared to what you can get from other manufacturers. I believe inside this is a WD drive and Transcend add the USB interface and protective casing. So far so good - I use it as my main data drive and it's been running for a good few months with very large video files being read, written and re-written without problems. I like the protective casing (rubberised outer sleeve and inner plastic case) as I do put the drive in a pocket sometimes. Performance is pretty good but to be honest I'm running this via a hub and a magnetic USB-C quick-disconnect connector, so I'm unlikely to be getting the speeds this drive is actually capable of. Very happy with the purchase - it's something different to the normal black-box drives from Seagate, WD, etc. and I'd probably buy another one of these if I needed another.

Found the instructions almost impossible to follow and couldn’t use it successfully to drag, drop and store important files. Transcend did offer advice on how to delete all data before I returned it for a full refund. Very disappointing. They need to offer more user friendly guidance.

Bought this to supplement my first Transcend external hard drive which is a 500GB device connecting via two USB plugs.This one is a 1TB device connecting via a single USB port, so easier to connect and double the capacity.Otherwise apart from the colour , plugs and capacity they look identical and the transfer speeds seem comparable.I have dropped my first unit without any issues, but wouldn't recommend throwing them around.

Had a couple of these hard drives before but 1TB size and very happy. This 2TB is ok but if I had one complaint it would be that it doesn't seem to like a large data transfer all in one go for some reason. I have used it to back up a powered 2TB drive that is attached to my desktop computer with all of my movies on. Try to copy over a large folder say 100-150 GB and it would stall and freeze, but break it down to smaller chunks and it worked fine. So still 5 stars, but with a raised eyebrow.

Nice looking drive purchased to use as an external backup primarily using beyond compare. First sync went ok, subsequent syncs and beyond compare saw all files on the drive as read only so wanted to replace them all instead of syncing changes. This would take hours and is a full back up, not a sync. First time i've had this problem syncing with beyond compare. Five other western digital drives sync without issue. Reformatting etc. has not helped. Avoid..

Well priced portable hard drive. This is the third one I have purchased in a month, two x 1TB one for my wife and the second for my son and finally this 2TB for myself. All are well made, and feel good to handle. As for reliability only time will tell. But we are all pleased with the Transcend products so far. Good to know that they are drop proof too.

This is a nice small hard disk with a lot of storage. It has a great backup function that was so straightforward that I almost missed how easy it was 😊. Give your backup a name and it will quietly run in the background. Having to move my workplace home with very little notice (Covid), I had all my data easily accessible. The rubber casing of the hard drive is also nice to touch.
