We bought this pump to remove rain water from our drained diving pool. Would it work to add a long garden hose to get the water further away?

If it is sloping downhill, it would probably work. But, it probably would be better to take your garden hose, fill it completely with water, put one end into the pool (not allowing the water to escape), and if possible, put the other end lower than the water level in the pool and it should siphon out.

Would this pump remove sludge from the bottom of a home fountain?

No it can remove light debri,like light sand, but mud will just block it up

Can this be used for transferring gas from a 50 gallon drum to a 5 gallon can ?

It will work for a one time use. I used this product with gas and it ate away the rubber on the inner tube and now it doesn’t create a suction to pump any fluids.

Can I attach a 2 inch diameter discharge hose to the pump?

The discharge port is about 1 1/2 inch ∅
