I bought this as a gift. The recipient enjoyed it. I borrowed it back when they'd finished reading, and enjoyed it even more. The author is clearly well informed, and has an entertaining style which makes a dry subject both compelling an entertaining. I recommend it highly for anyone who'd like to know the history of the English monarchy without ploughing through one of the many accurate but dull books to be found on the subject.

So funny. I can almost hear him reading it in my head. But you have to be a Brit or have knowledge of British culture/politics to understand some of the humour. But I’d recommend it to anyone who is curious about ‘English’ kings and wants a laugh.

Warning: This rollicking tour of English history is a gateway drug. Jammed full of wit, puns, and humorous asides, it will leave you wanting more. After smoking this crash course in medieval matters of royal succession, I dropped a double-dose of Dan Jones ("The Plantagenets" followed by "Wars of the Roses."). All three are great and best in that order. Enjoy!

A nice book, informative but not boring. It helps that I like the style and work of David Mitchell. I didn't know much about the era, so this book was a really useful read.
