There are a few things to watch out for, but once you understand them this thing just works
Had I not found another review written in German which provided some useful tips, and had I not checked out the Products' support pages on the manufacturers website I might be giving this 1 star. Here's the summary of what I found:There is a lot of junk on the drive out of the box. Sure - back it up by copying to a computer, but you can just format the drive if you don't want any of the software or whatever it comes with. When you format the drive choose the file format carefully. FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB. So if you intend to include any large files on your drive don't use that. You could use exFAT but I went with NTFS because all of the devices I wanted to connect this to supported NTFS.The supplied cable is just awful and affected my read/write speeds in a bad way. I replaced with an Amazon basics cable and it resolved this problem immediately. If you find the drive turning itself off and you are using Windows it's likely to be the USB power save settings. Have a look in 'Device Manager' in Windows, browse to the USB controllers - find the one that relates to the drive and right-click to get to Properties before tweaking the power management settings.Once I'd done all that the drive just worked exactly as I expected it to.

Good product but delivery was late
Good product on a whole and happy with my purchase! Product worked well with PC once setup was completed (easy to follow instructions from booklet)Not sure why but the usb-c adaptor didn't work with my device (perhaps its not compatible?) And unfortunately the delivery arrived later than expected.

Doesn't work properly
Tried this on two different machines. The drive enumerates OK, but as soon as you start writing data to it, it will quickly fall over, which causes the system to stall and the USB bus to reset. Tried the drive on several different machines and USB port types, with the same results. In one case the drive seemed to work OK, but then the data was found to be corrupted. There is a note on the package that the device will work with USB 2, but this impacts performance. I would suggest that this drive is totally useless - perhaps a risk to data integrity - unless you have USB 3.1.Keypad responsiveness is also pretty poor. If you enter the pin at a normal speed then it does not work.Don't buy this: it might claim to offer security, but integrity and availability are also important security properties.

Brilliant piece of kit
We send patient data to hospitals and these HDD's are perfect for us giving us two factor security, the data is encrypted and password protected and you also get the security of the pin number on the actual HDD

Versatile across OS's
There is one stand-out feature that is particularly good with this (and other keypad encrypted) device(s) - it is not tied to one OS.My experience of software encrypted USB drives is very mixed - they work ok, but if you want to move between different operating systems they are useless: the software either works on WIndows or Mac but not Linux and not generally between different systems. I've also had times when the encryption software has just hung for ages, and more than once had a complete failure to decrypt despite knowing the password - to the point I've not relied on them for backups. This is different - once you type your passcode in, it's a regular HDD. There's no software to run on your computer. For me this is a major advantage - I use Linux on my home computers but Windows at work. The drive doesn't care - it doesn't have to run any software on the computer to decrypt; once it's unlocked, the files are there for any OS to see. It's a bit cumbersome / fiddly to unlock it, but it works. I use it regularly to sync between my home desktop and laptop, with the added advantage that it automatically creates a secure backup for me.

Great at first, awful after a few months
Logs out and forces you to disconnect and re-enter the passcode far too frequently - literally every 3 minutes. Very frustrating as I liked the product at first
