Suprisingly Easy to use
I am extremely impressed with its sound quality and design. The speaker has a retro look that is reminiscent of Marshall's classic guitar amplifiers and it adds a touch of nostalgia to the overall aesthetic. The sound quality of this speaker is exceptional. It has a powerful and clear sound that fills the room with rich and dynamic audio. The bass is deep and tight, the mids are clear and the highs are crisp and not harsh. I was surprised at how loud the speaker can get while still maintaining the clarity of the sound. It's perfect for listening to music, podcasts or watching videos. The battery life on this speaker is also impressive, it lasts for over 20 hours on a single charge, which is perfect for those long days at the beach or for a weekend trip. It also has a USB-C port for quick charging, which is a great feature. The controls on this speaker are intuitive and easy to use, and it also has a built-in microphone for taking calls, which is a great added feature. It also has a 3.5mm input for connecting non-Bluetooth devices. I would highly recommend the Marshall Stockwell II to anyone looking for a high-quality and stylish portable speaker. It has a great sound quality and design, and it's perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. The battery life is impressive, and the controls are user-friendly. It's a great speaker for anyone who loves music and wants a portable option to take with them on the go.

Incredible Portable Speaker with Impressive Build and Sound Quality
I’ve been using the Marshall Willen portable speaker for a few weeks now, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. First off, the build quality is exceptional. The speaker feels incredibly durable and well-made, with a robust design that gives me confidence in its longevity. The battery life is another standout feature. I can go for hours without needing to recharge, making it perfect for long outings and extended use. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into making sure this speaker can keep up with an active lifestyle. Sound quality is where this speaker truly shines. The audio is rich and clear, with a surprising amount of bass for such a compact device. Whether I’m listening to music, podcasts, everything comes through crystal clear. One of my favorite features is the latch on the back of the device. This allows me to strap it to virtually anything – my backpack, bike, or even a tree branch when I’m out camping. It’s a simple yet highly effective addition that makes this speaker even more versatile and convenient. Overall, I couldn’t be happier with the Marshall Willen. It’s a perfect blend of quality, durability, and outstanding performance. Highly recommended!

Stockwell II - Versatile around the house, gold trim looks good
Update after Three Year's use __________________________ Mostly this has been very reliable having been in daily use most of the time and surviving being dropped more than once. On one occasion it just locked up, would not turn off or respond in any way, but had a flashing red light. After about an hour or so it seemed to recover and since then it has been nearly ok apart from one quirk. Sometimes when it is still 'awake' and waiting for the next bluetooth input, it will emit a quiet sort of click or scratch sound at intervals of a few seconds. That seems to go away when an actual audio signal is received. One major annoyance - the sound it makes on connect/disconnect is too loud and cannot be adjusted in any way. A purely visual signal would be better. Original review below: ------------------------- Easily carried from room to room. It's ok by the bedside for quiet listening as well as louder when needed. The gold nameplate and knob finish is a nice touch. Generous bass for such a tiny box - better than any transistor radio of a similar size that I ever heard. Bluetooth connection to phone or tablet is excellent. It's good for spoken voice radio as well as watching films or TV, but really shines with music of various types, from folk through jazz and classical, even bass-heavy rock and pop. There is some sort of stereo effect, but not spectacular. Place it near a wall or in a corner for even fuller bass. It has been mentioned elsewhere that the 3.5mm cable connection is flawed, I found that too - the device rapidly goes into a sleep mode in a couple of seconds, then wakes up just after the next track or sound has begun. Having said that, I've used a 3.5mm lead to listen to a talk on BBC R4 and it was ok. Use bluetooth where possible instead, no problems there. This is a modestly powered speaker, if you want ear-shattering volume, then look for something larger and more powerful. At £144 when purchased, a reasonably-priced way to add a bit of oomph inevitably lacking on most built-in device speakers. Overall, definitely recommended.

Incredible portable sound from a small package
I needed a speaker I could take anywhere - particularly outdoors or on holiday. I was particularly keen on the Bose sound core II- however it was a bit too beyond my budget. I came across the Marshall Emberton which looked the perfect size and build quality for my budget. Reviews were pretty good so went against my normal try before you buy and ordered. The sound quality is outstanding for its size- in my opinion equal to the bose at a lower price. Decent bass and volume and I would agree with other reviews that say it excels in the vocals. The build quality is solid and it looks fantastic wherever you put it. I particularly like the central rocker switch, which is responsive and quickly allows you to change tracks and volume with minimal fuss. The battery seems to last forever and the battery level indicator is a useful feature. Small criticism would be no aux input - although i bought it to be portable so unlikely ever to want to plug a device into it. Bluetooth range is ok - not fantastic I usually need to be in the same room to avoid any stuttering- I have come from using chromecast audio where range is not an issue- but less portable. I was surprised to read that despite it using Bluetooth 5.0 it uses an SBC codec rather than more recent AptX or AAC, which offer better latency and marginal improvement in sound quality. Not that I've noticed anything detrimental to the sound quality. Overall an outstanding portable speaker for the money!

Good, but not amazing
I bought this on sale to replace a 15+ year old cheap plastic set of non-branded PC speakers that looked very ugly in my living room. I figured this would be a significant sound quality upgrade as well as looking much better. It definitely delivers on the latter, but the sound quality is surprisingly mediocre. Here's what I love: - Great design / looks. I know this is subjective, but for me this speaker looks fantastic. - Excellent build quality. This compliments the looks with very natural looking faux leather, sturdy knobs and buttons, neatly aligned frames and accents. Of note the back board appears to be plastic rather than wood, although the sidewalls are definitely wood (or mdf, not sure without taking it apart). - Really fun little guitar riff chime when turning on/off or connecting to a bluetooth device. A functionally meaningless upgrade, but makes it feel so much more like a premium product, and keeps it strongly in the Marshall family. - Some songs do sound amazing on this thing. The sound is much clearer than most people need in their daily use, and the speaker delivers great complexity on a decent range. Unsurprisingly heavy bass guitar features really do shine here. Here's what I was hoping for more on: - It is just not a very powerful speaker. I was surprised at how little the difference was between my old (probably cost £15-20) 2.1 speakers and this thing. Trebles come through clear even if you crank it all up, but the bass muffles after a while. Also, play however you like with the knobs, on higher volumes the bass simply dulls some of the treble, rather than delivering both. - The power cable at the back connects pointing straight out. They really could have included an elbow joint cable instead to allow you to lead the cable away sideways. It is a minor point, really nitpicking here. Final thoughts: I have not downloaded the marshall app to play around with sound profiles, so this may change my opinion of the sound quality. In my opinion I should not have to do this to get good sound of a decent speaker, but I appreciate it may be my laziness. I will probably give the bigger versions a try at some point in the future to compare. I was torn between the Acton and the Stanmore for my small front room. The Acton went on sale for £160ish, so I pounced on it. I can see the Stanmore is on sale now for £230; I am not sure I would pay £70 for a small upgrade but it may be worth it for the better analogue input and the slightly increased power if it does deliver a better profile. The Woburn looks like the best sort of standalone to fill a large room, but the price tag on that is way beyond these two, so I would not even consider that. Over all the Acton II is a decent little speaker, but not quite the exploding metal gig I was expecting out of the box.

One of the best bluetooth speakers available
The Stanmore II is not my first Marshall product. I already own the first generation of Stanmore and Woburn and the portable Stockwell. I can therefore say that I know quite well the Marshall lineup. Stanmore II is the sweet spot within the product range as it is compact but capable of high performance. The Acton is too tiny and cannot play at a similar volume or ensure the same bass response. On the other hand, the Woburn can be even louder and richer in bass range thanks to its two woofers. If space is not an issue Woburn can deliver the best performance but your neighbors may not appreciate it as much you do. All in all the Stanmore II is a very good product that will please any user, even the most demanding: • Built quality: As any Marshall products, it is built paying attention to details. It is entirely covered with high quality black vinyl, details are made of real brass and knobs are rubberized for easier grip. • Features: Stanmore II offers very good connectivity thanks to RCA, 3.5mm Jack and Bluetooth 5.0. The wireless connection allows to keep two devices connected at a time and, by playing a song on one of them, the other one will be automatically paused if already playing. In addition to this the App allows to pair multiple Marshall products together and fine tune the sound with 5 bands EQ. Bluetooth connection is low latency and ensures no lag between video and audio while watching a movie. All the knobs of Stanmore II are digital and show the level with nice red leds whose intensity can be dimmed. • Sound quality: if compared to the previous generation there is a difference in timbre of sound. Stanmore I was smoother with less extension to the high end. Probably with Stanmore II new tweeters have been used to increase efficiency and this led to a well detailed sound which is sharper than before. Overall sound quality is very good and the DSP makes sure that the sound is always balanced and undistorted. • Optical audio: the Stanmore II lost the optical connection that was available in the first generation. Beware of this in case you want to use it also as a soundbar for your TV and that with a few £ an external converter can be added and connected to RCA input. • Volume management: this is definitely a step forward on the previous generation. Stanmore I and the connected Bluetooth device had two different volumes that had to be adjusted individually. With Stanmore II the master volume is unique and can be set either from the speaker or from a phone. By spinning the knob on the speaker, you will see the volume on your phone increase or decrease accordingly. • Play/Pause/Skip button: a multifunctional button, missing in Stanmore I, has been added. It is very useful.

Great Speaker
I've had a Bose Sounddock for a long time and used a bluetooth adapter since iPhones moved to the lightning connector (yes it's that old) and so it was about time I upgraded. I needed something that sounds good but also can fill a decent sized room if needed, and if it looked nice then it's a bonus. The Marshall not only had classic looks but has an impressive sound. It will easily fill most lounge's unless you live in a mansion, and has very good equalizer settings within the phone app. What's nice is there's volume and tone controls on the unit itself which plays into the retro looks somewhat and also feeds into the look of the guitar amp background of Marshall. You can control the sound quickly from these controls (just bass and treble) or with more detail using the app which has a more usual equalizer setting. Bluetooth connection was quick and easy. The sound does distort slightly is really pushed to maximum volume, however the volume is then pretty loud and not really somewhere you'd want to go. To be honest if you needed to go that loud you'd probably be wanting to look for a proper full stereo system or at least getting a pair of these to use in combination. Overall, really pleased with the Stanmore II. Looks great (especially if you like the Marshall guitar amp look) and has more than enough quality sound/volume for most rooms in the average house and even shouldn't be a problem outdoors for bbq's etc.
