I'm a Beginner, it's Enchanting!
The media could not be loaded. Initially I was using this Ceramic Incense Burner for Frankincense and Myrrh Resins. It took a while for me to warm to the Oud scents. The burner does not get hot, I can pick it up and waft scents around me.I adjust the heat level by adding a layer of fine sand in the Charcoal Divit. Experiment with this, there are numerous creative methods for "Decapitating the Heat". Once adjusted you'll get Heavenly fragrances. I assure you all 10 packets are different! And smell great!I let the Charcoal burn for about 5 minutes and it's completely grey and no longer giving off smoke before adding the Incense. Charcoal burns about 45 minutes, I just keep on adding scents, I use all of it.I keep scissors and a knife handy to break up the pieces of Oud before adding to the burner. The oils are a bit messy, keep napkins handy. I'm sure I'll get better at this as time goes on.I love it, I'm hooked!

Interesting and unusual starter set of Bakhoor incense samples
I really like this Maison D'Orient discovery set. I was originally planning to give it as a gift, because I expected all the incense samples to contain floral notes. Florals, especially rose, are super-common in middle eastern oud blends and bakhoors, and they give me a headache and make me queasy. I opened this set to check it out, and while there were indeed several blends that smelled heavily of rose, there were also a few that I really liked, with more of a woody-spicy profile, so I decided to keep it for myself. My kit came with a couple rolls of charcoal, mini tongs, the little ceramic burner, and several tiny resealable sample-sized bags of bakhoor. My set didn't include the two fragrance oil or perfume samples that other reviewers mentioned. There are alcohols and solvents and essential oils present in the incense blends, making them very wet and sticky, and they will cause surface damage if left in contact for too long with painted or varnished surfaces, so be careful when using and storing them. Overall, I'm quite happy with the performance and value offered by the Maison D'Orient set, and would recommend it for the price. Even though the samples are small, they have a lot of scent throw, and are a good introduction to this type of incense. As a tip for beginners, you will probably get the best results if you wait a few minutes and add the bakhoor after the charcoal has become paler and started to smolder, as opposed to filling the tray while the coals are still actively burning.

Best Gifts
I bought 2 of these as Christmas gifts and they were happy to receive. The ladies were HAPPIER when they used the Bakhoor, I literally received a text from one and a call from the other saying how much they enjoyed the scents filling their homes AND immediately asked where they could get more for fear of running out. I think that’s the biggest compliment about this product.

Burns up quickly
The burner is plastic, the metal is cheap, the incense burns very quickly albeit it smells very nice. They give a very good description of the various incenses included which were quite a few.
