American Girl Lila 18-inch Doll & Journal (Girl of The Year 2024)

When I decided to pick up the 2024 Girl of the Year for my mom, I knew I was buying more than just a toy; I was adding a centerpiece to her collection that celebrates both athleticism and style. From the moment we unboxed her, it was clear that American Girl has poured a tremendous amount of detail into Lila Monetti. The quality is immediately palpable, from the weight of her vinyl limbs to the softness of her cloth body. My mom was instantly captivated by the sheer vibrancy of this doll—she feels fresh, modern, and incredibly well-crafted, bridging the gap perfectly between a play-ready companion and a display-worthy collector's item. ​The first thing that grabs your attention is her stunning hair and face mold. Lila features a beautiful, warm caramel hair color that is generously streaked with sun-kissed blonde highlights, giving her a glowing, summer-ready look. The curls are tight and bouncy, holding their shape well even after being handled, and the half-up dual ponytail style she arrives in is both sporty and chic. Her amber eyes are a standout feature, offering a unique depth that differentiates her from previous dolls in the line. Stunning doll. I previously had her but missed having her here so I bought her. Her faceup and eyes are all perfect. Her hair is stunning and the small ponytails may be removed or left in. Excellent reduced price.

My daughter is obsessed with the doll. We gifted it to her for her 9th birthday. True to the American girl quality but more cost effective than the originals.

Birthday gift for my daughter who happens to love gymnastics, like Lila. She is a beautiful doll. My daughter absolutely loves her. She has taken her with her just about everywhere she goes lol. I'd say a bit of favoritism amongst her collection. Must get her before she is gone & resellers try to upcharge for her.

This doll is grand. This is the whole package :) And it, of course, starts with the package. And it doesn't stop there. The face is the beautiful Josephina face. And the combination of the caramel hair with highlights (or blond with caramels streaks?) and those eyebrows and freckles - this is one smart design move, which is difficult to resist. So if you are in that feeble emotional state, steer clear, it will be difficult to stop with just the doll. With all that wonderful, there are two things I am not all too excited about. The top is of the same appalling quality the WellieWisher Kendal has to wear - the metal thread in the fabric really ruins it. It scratches and feels unpleasant to touch. And then there is the hair. I suspect this is the hair that most people will call textured and be fine with it. But, in fact, this lack of smoothness and relative thinness make this hair mess up immediately. One change of clothes and you have a mess to deal with. Keep brushing, all I can say. This doll arrived when it was just beginning to get cool outside, so what I witnessed on arrival cannot be fully attributed to this. And what happened was this - we unpacked the doll and when the hair net was removed, the hair felt cooler than it does now and slightly (?) wet... Like, as if some sort of product had been applied to the hair and had not dried completely, as if the doll was rushed through production. Quite possibly, just imagination playing up, but that felt just different. I had a very strong inclination to wash that hair and maybe I will, just on the ends. PLEASE NOTE - you cannot really wash the hair as the water might get into the eyes and ruin them. Also, the hair is the wig so the base will get wet and will take ages to dry. These are amazing dolls but you have to handle them with a lot of care, so, if like myself, you are tempted to wash the hair, think one more time. And - a DISCLAIMER - it might have been just this one batch of dolls that had this hair surprise, hopefully, other buyers will share a different story. Even our situation could be rectified by letting the doll sit in the warmth of the room. But keep the dolls away from extreme temperatures, they are vinyl and it is not an 'innocent' component. But the doll is beautiful! It will appeal to both, children and grown-ups and it does bring that wow factor! Lila (Girl of the Year 2024) is an absolutely gorgeous American Girl doll. Her unique amber-brown eyes that open and close are stunning, and her honey brown hair with blonde highlights is thick, shiny, and easy to style. I adore her cute freckles, which give her so much personality. She’s wearing a custom Juicy Couture outfit made just for her, and it fits her style perfectly. I’m beyond happy with this doll—she’s beautiful in every way. Highly recommend, 10/10! 💖✨
