Fantastic Start to New Series
I’ve read the Michael Yorke & Emma Gardner series and can say that this is equally good if not better. The pacing and plot is fantastic! i didn’t guess the ending and the character development has left me really looking forward to the next book release. I’m from the US, a bit obsessed with the UK and Yorkshire and just love authors that can weave the location into an integral character of the book; Markin does this really well in the Emma Gardner series (I visited Knaresborough this summer specifically bc it was so well described and included in the Gardner series) and he has done it with Whitby in this series as well. Having been to Whitby 2x inc. for a week last summer, this book made me feel like i was visiting an old friend. I cannot wait for book #2! Markin has to be included in any discussions of the top UK crime/ police procedural writers! (with the stuff he writes in the Michael Yorke series i’m not sure how he’s not on some list of potential serial killers 😂)

Very captivating and atmospheric!
I'm new to this author and was so pleased with my discovery! Intriguing characters and plot - it didn't disappoint. No spoilers so I'm off to the next book on the series.I hope this series continues past three. 🙏

Good story
Complex characters make for an interesting and complicated old case. How DCI Black teases out the clues to solve a decades old murder is a really interesting process.

Pleasantly surprised!
I was a bit hesitant to start a series about an older detective, but Wes Markin pulled it off. I really enjoyed this book, and murder mystery he laid out. I found myself looking forward to returning to the book between chores and sleep. Very well done 💕

Excellent start to a new series.
I love the style of Writing Wes Markin brings to his books, Forgotten Bones is the first in a new series set in Whitby, Yorkshire, as usual the descriptive language of characters gives one a sense of realism, you feel the pain and compassion of DCI Frank Black, an opening scene that absolutely is quite shocking and as with all the authors books has you immersed in the storyline from page one.A body has been found stuffed into a suitcase, it turns out to be a cold case from decades ago, Franks new partner on the case. DI Gerry Carver is a character who I warmed to pretty quickly, her no nonsense method of working and ability to see what others may not pick up on brings a great dimension to their partnership and so refreshing to read. This is a great start for the series, characters you will misjudge, as layers are pulled away and secrets are exposed, you are taken on a journey into the past and a life taken away, maybe now justice will prevail. Excellent read, really looking forward to the next book in the series.

Who's Who
Good story line and interesting set of characters. If only Mr Markin could've kept his surnames straight, I'd have given it four stars.

I was disapointed
I love these British Murder mysteries. And this is a new author with a new series, so i was excited. But sadly disappointed. See, our protagonist DCI Black is not a likable person. Fat, out of shape, heavy drinker and smoker, a slob, andstill sad over the death of his wife (I will give that last a pass, since it seems common in these mysteries), and who keeps his adult daughter locked up in a room.He also seems about as competent as Inspector Lestrade, depending heavily on luck and his genius but autistic DI.I won't be buying any more from this author.

Great start
I am looking forward to more in this series! A compelling mystery, centered around a cold case. DCI Frank Black is a flawed human, who is doing his best for his daughter and for Charlotte Wilson, a beautiful voice, lost but not forgotten. Secrets have a way of coming out and there are some big ones here.

Well; I didn't think I would find. . .
A replacement for Kirk. Hoon certainly didn't work for me, but these are brilliant. Heart breaking, excellent deep story line. Can't put the book ( well kindle!) Down but don't want the story to end. I've already told all my fellow book loved friends to please read this. Can't wait book the next in the series. Really really quality reading.

Totally gripping !!!
Ive read all previous books by Wes Markin . Looking forward to this I was with excitement..But this was exceptional. Its dark deep and gritty and so emotional. When you have such characters that are so well written that you know all of them …. Some heartbreaking moments . This is a a hell of a read . Loved it!!!

Something different
Not your usual run of the mill who dunnit. Something definitely . different about the storyline. The characters were credible and their role in the plot extremely plausible. Looking forward to book no2.
