Learn Colour in Painting Quickly (Learn Quickly)

Excellent little book, very easy to read & informative.

A bit technical about color and not so much on watercolor painting

The media could not be loaded.  This is a small verse of a field guide. It takes about 30 minutes to read. The eight chapters are broken down with pallet set up, differences between warm and cool colours, how to mix colours, creating effects and the final chapter is all about colour combinations. This was exciting to see.The images used in the book are great reference photos. She does tell you what colours were used in the photos too.What I didn’t like - absolutely no exercises to try to create shade, tone and values. She talks about it but doesn’t bring you along for the experience.I wish it had an exercise per chapter. That would have given it a higher rating. Hopefully in future reprints/ versions this will be included.The photos are really beautiful reference photos of the wildlife (mostly Safaris based)

I’m a beginner in art, this book gave me all I need to know about colour at tHis stage, it’s Very clear and easy to read. great book on understanding how colour works...really enjoyed it

Even though there was much to learn, I do not think the title describes this type of book correctly as there were no step by step lessons to learn from. It showcases the magic of Hazel Soans' techniques with very brief descriptions of one aspect around the relevant image and Artists with a great deal of experience will learn from this book and inexperienced Artists will find it somewhat frustrating.Overall the book is invaluable for growth in colour usage, to enhance nature scenes & capture light & shadows on subjects.

This small book has a very simple explanation of color and value. I am an experienced artist and enjoy the way this book is organized.
