I recently added the Sunhouse Basic Chef Knife to my kitchen arsenal, and I've got to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by what you get for the price. As someone who spends a fair amount of time in the kitchen, I've come to appreciate a good chef's knife, and this one doesn't disappoint.The 7.5-inch blade length is really the sweet spot for me. It's versatile enough to handle about 90% of my daily cutting tasks, from chopping vegetables to slicing meat without being too large and unwieldy. I find myself reaching for this knife more often than not, which is a testament to its utility.What I really appreciate is how it feels in my hand. Sharp and Nice
My son is a chef. Everytime he used to come for visits, he cooked for me. (Those were the days!) Each time he came, he poked fun at me for not having a "decent" knife. I have knives, but they're all about 100 years old and dull as they can be.This looked like an awesome knife in the listing, and I figured it would be great for me. My son is no longer able to come very often, but if he ever makes it here he won't be able to make fun of my knives anymore!When it arrived, I was impressed right away. It's a very nice looking knife and very well balanced. And...it is sharp! I'm so accustomed to using dull knives, this is quite a wonderful change. I really have to use caution until I get used to it.I got it a couple of days ago and have used it several times. Last night I used it for cutting carrots and potatoes. My gosh, it cut so well I didn't feel like my hand was tired and about to fall off.I also sliced some brisket with it. Perfect for that. It cut through the brisket with no hesitation. What a huge difference this knife is making!Overall, I'm very pleased with this chef's knife. It's wonderful to finally have a nice knife! It has a nice handle that feels good in my hand. This knife is very well made with no workmanship flaws and is well balanced. I already enjoy using it. I'm very satisfied and recommend this knife!

Unusual - not one of the top 12 knives. Like a minerature Santoku. Great Sandwich-making knife.
If you have all of the standard kitchen knives (Chef, Fillet, Steak, Paring, Peeling, Cheese, Cleaver, Carver, Boning, Bread, Santoku, and Utility) and are looking for something different, then this knife will add something new and unique to your collection.This knife is shaped like its larger cousin the Santoku knife (which usually has dimples along the blade in order to make watery vegetables or roasts from sticking to the blade), but is larger than a utility or paring knife.Whereas the large Santoku knife has a shaped blade for rocker dicing larger food items, I would say that this knife would excel at dicing or mincing smaller items like garlic or herb/ spice type items.I would think that the best use of this knife is simply making sandwiches. Cut up some tomatoes, pickles, slice cheese and lunch-meat, then use it for scooping out mayo or mustard. Paring and utility knives don't get much mayo out of the jar because it slides through it, other knives are too big, and why get a butter knife out just to get the mayo out of the jar when you already have a knife in your hand? What a simple and practical idea.Whereas some knives, like the boning knife is seldom ever used, this is the kind of knife that is very handy when people just have the sense that most of the other knives are just too big, and a paring knife is too small, and this knife could very well become a favorite knife for all kitchen everyday uses.

a great little knife, larger than a paring knife smaller than a chef's knife
I am a kitchen knife nut and I own at least a hundred including many custom made and some costing over $1,000. My wife made me promise not to buy any more, but this one, to my great surprise, doesn't really overlap with any other I own...it's larger than my go-to paring and small blades, but smaller than my smallest chef's knife. It has a shape that's like a mini-gyuto, which turns out to be really great in a smaller knife than one usually sees among gyutos.It's incredibly sharp out of the box and is made from a comparatively soft steel, which means it likely won't hold its edge that long but will be comparatively easy to resharpen. The included text doesn't make clear what angle the edge was ground to initially, a real shortcoming in terms of choosing a sharpener.The blade seems to me stamped rather than forged, but has a full tang and a comfortable handle; it's very, very thin...figuring out the best things to use it for will take me some time but I think will be worth the effortI don't think any knife deserves 5 stars until after a year or so of use, or at least until it's been sharpened at least once, but I will come back and revisit this when the sooner of those takes place. In the meantime I'm a fan, and the price is good value.
