Square Foot Gardening: A New Way to Garden in Less Space with Less Work

Vermiculite problems
I found this book very interesting and helpful, and have constructed raised beds 28" high and 4foot square for my vegetable growing. These are very helpful as I suffer from arthritis and find it difficult to bend. The only problem I found was with the vermiculite. Horticultural grade is very fine, and suitable for covering seeds etc, but I could not find 'agricultural' grade anywhere. I did finally find what was required - but it is 'INSULATION' grade, and is also used for making lightweight concrete. This may help those who wish to use the mix as specified. Since obtaining the correct mix I find that it keeps the 'soil' warm, damp but well drained and works well.

can't wait for next spring to try the ideas out
This book is brilliant for someone who wants to grow their own but hasn't got a lot of time for weeding and vast amounts of effort in the garden. I put some of the ideas into practice this year and with minimal effort on a plot not much bigger than a greenhouse managed to grow enough garden peas for about 10 meals for a family of four and I haven't had to buy potatoes from the supermarket since the beginning of June (I've just dug up my last plant)

Amazing way to garden easily!
Having heard about the Square Foot Gardening method, I was intrigued to read about it and am now awaiting the return of brighter weather so I can get out to my veggie patch and start. It appeals to me that you do not need such a large area to plant in and the idea of only having to weed a square foot at a time really appeals to my knees and back!

I liked the book
I bought this book a few years ago but unfortunately I lost it, think I lent it to someone and didn't get it back, so this is a replacement. I liked the book, very informative and it makes a lot of sense if you only have a smallish area for your veg etc. It's worth buying.

A must for every Veg Grower out there!
I chose this book as I have (or so I thought) limited space, I always had an issue with seed packets saying plant 4" apart between 30cm rows, why such a distance between rows but not plants?? I now realise I have much more space in my seemingly small garden to work with than IO could possibly need. This book is a veg growers bible! If you grow Vegetables, this book is more valuable than seeds!!
