Mine gas started making a sqealling noise from the hose is that normal

Mine makes the same noise from the hose connection. Only bought it for use in the garage but the floor head is hopeless.

How long is the metal tube when extended?

Not long enough! I'm only just 5ft 3in tall and I still have to bend a bit and it hurts my back after a while. I wouldn't recommend buying this hoover at all. In the beginning it sucked that hard I could hardly move it across any floor (carpet/vinyl/wood etc), it just seemed to suck the heck out of it and really strained my back even more but after a short time, it seemed to stop picking anything up and all I did was empty very little out of it and take the filters out to clean them constantly just so it would work!. Biggest waste of £100 in a sale that I've ever spent - Don't buy it! I'm still borrowing from friends until I can afford a cordless!!

I have read the online manual and it says the post motor filter should be changed every year, is this really necessary?

It depends on usage as with the pre-motor filter. If someone uses their machine every day or every other day, then they should replace the filter every 6-12 months. However if someone vacuums only once a week, they may not need to replace it until 18 months - 2 years. Hope this helps.
