Brilliant & Relentless
This book is good. It's very good. It is relentless. It's sad.Mulk Raj Anand has written this book very well. It does indeed trace the life of young Munoo, as he travels - or makes his way - in life. I can't even say that he makes his way in life. He struggles his way through life. He finds love in another man's wife, albeit briefly.Yet, life is a struggle. Amazingly, he retains some of his innocence through these struggles. Sadly, this has not changed in India even today.Mulk Raj Anand has captured this struggle perfectly, and this is why I say that the book is relentless. The struggle does not stop even for a day. It starts with birth and ends with death. The endBrilliant.

Not like "Untouchable"
I had high expectations from this book by shri Mukul Raj Anand...but its not up to the level of his book Untouchable...however the story keeps you engrossed...but at times feels that its a bit slow and not heading anywhere.

Amazing book
This is the second book of Mulk Raj Anand that I have read. This book illustrates the journey of a young fourteen year old boy Munoo and the hardships he had to go through. According to me, "Coolie" portrays the perfect picture of the social hierarchy, supremacy among the thong of India either through financial establishment or racism, and sometimes through educational qualification.

It's such a fantastic read, the plot
It's such a fantastic read, the plot, the characters and the writing style of the one of the pioneers of Indian English literature is superb. It's an insight into the British Indian society and the lives of the upper and lower strata of the society. I had always wanted to read Mulk Raj's works and now i am an ardent admirer of his writing style.

A disturbing insight
This is an extraordinary, deeply disturbing novel. Brilliantly and evocatively written, echoing an era of British imperialism that is past, but has left its long shadow over India.

Wonderful book by a wonderful author
Mulk Raj Anand, author, leads onto the path and the meet the Coolie, a rickshaw driver in India. I have read “Untouchables” by the same author and it has stayed with me all these years. I highly recommend both books.I want to give a shout out to Century Books. My order was never delivered but it is my hope someone, somewhere is enjoying it. They kindly refunded the full purchase price and also sent me a complimentary copy of Coolie and it arrived today. Century Books is a stand-up company and I thank you.

Bring this back in print!
I'm teaching this alongside A Passage to India, in a course on reputation and representation; Anand's Coolie is under-represented and rarely taught, and it should be.
