A GREAT Backup pair of Meta Ray-Bans.
Got these as my 3rd Pair, but I got it as a back up, so I chose the Gen 1. I already have the Gen 2 in Polarized and in Transition. I love all three pairs. These are a bit limited in camera quality and battery life, but nonetheless, they are great. The videos are 1080 in 30fps, and battery life is about 4 hours. They still retain the classic Wayfarer look. I just love the Matte Black finish.

Excellent for a first time smart glasses owner
The Gen 1 Meta glasses seem to be on sale everywhere. That prompted me to buy a pair. I’m very impressed with what they can do. Both photos and video quality is good. I wear hearing aids, I can play music and answer the phone with my Metas and the hearing aids pick up the audio. It’s cool to look at something and ask Meta what it is. If I use these like I think I will I might buy a pair of the high dollar display glasses and get prescription lenses. Then gift these to a family member.

Great But Software Issues and Short Battery Life
I bought these used with minor scratches, no problem because I got them to put prescription lenses in. After my annual eye test (my vision thankfully has been stable this year for a change, so the prescription was the same) I gave them to the staff to send off for lenses after signing a waiver that they would not be responsible for any damage to my frames. When I picked them up, my doctor said the company declined to fit the lenses, so he did it himself. My new lenses are progressive, transition, and coated, but in the car they won’t darken much, if at all, because the car’s glass absorbs UV, so I bought aftermarket clip-on, flip-up sunglasses for my Wayfarers. Back home the first thing I did was charge them. Then I downloaded the app, turned them on, put them on, and ran through the instructions. They were very clear and easy to follow. As eyeglasses, I like the fit and the big lenses. I’m not crazy about the looks, but I didn’t buy them for how they look to others, and to the minor extent that I care, the Wayfarer style is classic. As smart glasses, I like how easy it was to pair Bluetooth with my i14. The audio quality is excellent, as far as I can tell with my minor old age hearing loss, and open ear lets me hear the outside world. I’m not so good with the volume control yet, so I do that on my phone, but the audio pause/resume feature is useful. The glasses give an audio cue when I put them on, and another very shortly after when Bluetooth is active. The only times I’ve used the camera were when I fat-fingered the button by mistake, but the photos looked okay before I deleted them on my phone. I like the way the glasses answer the phone and handle texts, hands-free and more convenient than my Fitbit Sense 2, great when driving. I haven’t tried talking to “Hey, Meta” much, but it’s a very interesting feature. My main disappointment is the short battery life, in hindsight not surprising with such small batteries. Sometimes I carry my old glasses in my shirt pocket so I can switch while I charge these. The app, which by the way should stay active when wearing these glasses, displays battery %. Charging in the case requires some jiggling to make contact. The charging case is not sold separately. I bought an aftermarket charger that’s easier to use, seems faster, and lets me charge in more than one place: case in the car, new charger in the bedroom. Oh, before I forget again, the glasses give an audio low battery warning at 15% and again at 5%. After charging, when I put them on, they give an audio report, 100% battery. This review page suggests that I should mention value for money. I consider this a positive, with audio better than in-ear plugs or pods, still camera and video camera, phone and text answering, access to AI, and stylish sunglasses for much less than the total price of buying them all separately. One thing I try to remember when I write a review, if I had it to do over again knowing what I know now, would I still buy it? Yes! Edited to add: Yesterday I started a timer when I put on the glasses. I didn't use the audio much, maybe half an hour or so in total, and the 15% bat warning came at 5 hours and 45 minutes, better than I expected. I will time it with full time audio music and report. The aftermarket charger took them back to 100% in 57 minutes. I haven't timed the charging case yet, but will add that when I do. Updated edit: After several charges using each, although not precisely timed, the case and the aftermarket charger take substantially the same amount of time to charge the Wayfarers to 100%. The aftermarket charger has a light on full-time when it’s holding the glasses, red for charging and green for fully charged. The case’s light turns on only briefly upon opening or closing the case. Rather than interrupting the charging process to check battery status, especially when charging with the case, I use the app to get the current battery percentage. Update after just over a year of use: Sorry to say the focus is mainly on the negative. 1. They tend to slide down my nose when I'm active, which causes the audio to pause. It's very annoying, especially after buying Amazon Alexa Echo glasses that play on even when I remove them. Software issue. 2. The battery life is too short. The new second generation doubles the battery life, but that doesn't help me, just tells me that the problem was recognized. 3. The software consumes battery life much faster than my Alexa glasses, which I can wear for an hour without exercising any smart functions and find the battery still at 100%. These glasses' software consumes the battery faster even when not actively using any smart function, although I haven't tested or measured how much. One would hope that Meta software would be at least as good as Amazon. 4. I seldom use the camera, still or video; I mainly listen to music and use the phone when I want a camera. For my purposes I much prefer the Alexa glasses. 5. So I'm changing my conclusion: If I had it to do over again knowing what I know now, would I still buy them? Regrettably, no. I might go for the second generation, but probably would stick with Amazon Alexa Echo.

The coolest gift ever!!!
We got the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1) glasses for our son’s 13th birthday, and honestly, we might be the best and coolest parents on the block right now. These things are a total game changer. He puts them on and instantly feels like a tech-savvy spy from the future. Taking hands-free photos and videos of his friends, listening to music while skating, and even getting directions without pulling out his phone. The style looks just like classic Ray-Bans, so they don’t scream “smart glasses” . They just look sharp. The camera quality is surprisingly good for quick snaps and clips, the audio is crystal clear for calls and Spotify, and the battery lasts through an entire day of adventures. He’s already used them to record his basketball highlights, chat with grandma, and show off to his friends (who are now begging their parents for a pair too). Setup was super easy, and the Meta app connects seamlessly. No complaints at all! These glasses made our kid’s birthday unforgettable and turned us into the coolest parents in the neighborhood overnight. Highly recommend for any teen (or adult) who wants to stay connected in the most stylish way possible! — Super proud (and now legendary) parents!

Meta Ray-Ban glasses review from a dad’s perspective
I absolutely LOVE these glasses. The style, the usability, the video, photo, and audio, clarity everything is just incredible! The battery life could get me through an entire day unless I was shooting a lot of video/photo, then I would get around 4hrs. Which isn’t bad especially with the fast charging speed the charging case offers. I really enjoyed being able to capture my kids having fun without fumbling around in my pocket for my phone. Also my kids wouldn’t freeze up and stop what they were doing because they saw me bring my phone out. They barely noticed me taking video with the glasses. They saw the flashing light on the glasses but didn’t think twice about it. I also loved the fact that I still had both hands available to interact with my kids while capturing incredible POV shots. I signed up for the “Early Access” program to gain access to the upcoming features. The live translations feature was a real game changer. Testing it out with some of my Spanish speaking colleagues was fun but it was really useful when I was recently at a Spanish market and I was able to better communicate. Using the glasses to scan QR code or having John Cena (one of the celebrity voices available for Meta AI” answer a question for me while on the go without bringing out my phone was great. The speakers on the glasses are really good as well. I enjoyed being able to take a call or listen to a podcast while walking around without having my AirPods in my ear. Now don’t get me wrong the sound quality is not matched the the AirPods Pros especially when the noise cancellation is on. But for the convenience and comfort of not having something in your ear and still being able to hear it’s a win for me. I ended up going with the large size, which fit me well. BUT my one issue is that the arms are just a tad but snug by the top of the ear. I was able to find some cushions on Amazon which completely rectified the issue. For around $400 after tax I feel that these glasses are a great value for the money. Also depending on the type of Vision insurance you have they may be covered, at least some of the cost. Which makes them an even better deal.

Stylish….. affordable? Highly recommend for creators!!
These were EXACTLY what I expected them to be - which is hard to come across, especially when it comes to new technology. They have the iconic Ray-Ban style paired with a quality open ear speaker system, a useful camera with decent quality, and a host of other small but cool little features. The navigation gestures were easy and intuitive, the recording light was obvious (a good thing) and the connectivity was quality. The ONLY downside I see with this first generation is the battery life, which with consistent recording, can run out in about an hour to 1.5hrs. If you’re just listening to music and taking alerts from your phone, it lasts much longer. The charging case gets you an additional 2-3 full charges though which is good. I’d highly recommend these for anyone looking to get in to content creation, they work great for making Instagram Reals or even longer YouTube videos when combining clips etc. the entry level price is definitely affordable with all things considered and I personally prefer the POV from this camera vs that of a GoPro etc
