U34 Bolt 2TB (USB4 40Gbps) NVMe Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) Portable SSD, Up to 2800MB/s

Woah this thing is fast! Tested on my MBP M2 Max and a Mac Studio M1 using 5GB (large file) setting using blackmagic's testing tool (avail. on the app store). The picture is the MBP but about same results for the Studio (though note that you have to use the ports at the back; the ones at the front only allow transfer up to a little over 300Mbps) Cable is provided (that's important). The drive comes formatted as HFS+. First screenshot is with the original HFS+ partition, second is after re-formating as APFS. HFS is for compatibility with older MacOS pre-Sierra and is less optimal for SSDs, especially for smaller files. Also while APFS is not PC-compatible, neither is HFS so there is little to gain for keeping it as HFS for the regular Mac user. Other big plus: the drive is small (basically the part not covered by the rubber thing in the middle is slightly smaller than a credit card in surface, so the whole thing is just a nudge wider than a credit card) and relatively thin. Fits in a jeans pocket like a pretty full wallet would (not that I would carry it like that, but it means it fits easily in a front pocket of a backpack) NOTE: External SSDs have a bad tendency of failing (just bought this after my Kingston failed within 6mo - granted manufacturer warranty is good for 3 years for these type of devices) so will come back in ~6mo to confirm everything is fine.

I haven't had a problem (touch wood) with the two 4TB I purchased late 2024. Ridiculously fast, and they don't get hot. My opinion - and I have at least 20 SSDs from SanDisk to Samsung in all sizes and speeds. All have been excellent, but none can beat the speed of this drive. It's like having an extra disk in your Mac Studio, Mac mini, or Desktop. Stunning performance. Compact with an excellent rubber buffer, you won't be disappointed. Okay, my desk needs a clean-up already. :)

Much faster than usb 3. I ran a full backup with an external usb 3 hard drive that took over 30 minutes. I ran the same backup with this drive in just over 6 minutes. Be careful to use the proper cable length. The 10ft Thunderbolt 4 cable that I bought did not work with this drive. The supplied 1.5ft cable works great.

I bought a few of these, They are super fast , I was impressed. However keep in mind Black Friday is coming up and these drives were always listed at $399.00 but I see now just a few weeks before back Friday is here and I hope they don’t say ok it's On sale for Black Friday and take it back down to the regular price instead of discounting it? Even though it is worth the $400 going above that is not too realistic. They should put ti on sale around $350 or less instead of pushing the price up to $499.00 then dropping it to $399 or more. I hope they don't do that. but we will see shortly Black Friday is coming in just over a week. Be aware.

This Bolt HD works well with my PC Thunderbolt 4. As far as I can tell, it comes close to living up to the speeds quoted. I like the sturdy, shock absorbing, case! The phone support is the best of any company that I have called! A knowledgeable person answered - right away. Had a very friendly and informative conversation. That is nearly unheard of these days! A very welcomed experience.

I never write reviews but had such a pleasant experience with this. It feels super high quality, the capacity is *real*, it functions perfectly, and the value is really strong compared to what else is out there especially the big brands. I felt it was putting my M4’s ports to waste if I didn’t get something like this, and am so glad I did. I also thought it was thoughtful it came formatted HFS+ instead of APFS, for a reason they helpfully explain in an included leaflet: Apple has done a poor job with recovery mechanisms if something goes wrong. fsck commands are more capable in HFS+, and APFS rescue can be really tricky. Of course you’re able to instantly erase and reformat as APFS if you’d like (I have and it’s divine), but this was a kind precaution for the user who has no idea what any idea of this is. I had the LG Ultra 5K Unfines and those really slow down since they’re not true TB in the back ports; if you plug directly into your Mac’s IO ports the speed was rating at 35gbps. I also emailed support to see if they were real, and they passed the test. Go for it! I have a new Mac Studio computer that has 4 real Thunderbolt4 ports, yet finding an external drive with a Thunderbolt4 is difficult to find. I did not want a Thunderbolt 3. I needed a 4TB external drive and this company had 2TB and 8TB on sale but not the 4TB. I would have loved the 8TB but it was expensive and overkill. I could not wait so I went ahead and bought the 4TB anyway. I am using it now for my Time Machine backups as my Time Machine had told me a 2TB USC drive I had was too small. I would not have needed a Thunderbolt 4 for Time Machine so if I later get a USB-C drive in 4TB I could use that for Time Machine and keep this drive for my photos and such. It was very fast doing a full first time, Time Machine backup. I am very pleased with it. It had good reviews but a couple mentioned how big it is. It’s not tiny but still small, about the size of a deck of cards, maybe slightly thicker because of the rubber bumpers on it to protect it, but in no way big! My Thunderbolt ports are on the back of my computer and I just sit this behind next to my ports. I am thrilled with the drive just wish the 4TB would have been on sale as well.
