Sweet and fun!
This is such a fun premise, but the authors did a great job of making it seem grounded in reality. The fun of a girl getting a behind the scenes look at a guys' world is balanced with real people dealing with real problems. I liked that there was a focus on the team and the sport she was playing rather than playing up her infiltrating some testosterone fueled boy's club. It did make me laugh when she thought she was bonding with the guys, but they thought the rookie was weird and annoying. Hayden had a chip on his shoulder which made him even more antagonistic toward "Al" and resentful of the rookie besting him. I liked that they first developed a relationship as teammates before becoming friends. The authors handled the aspect of an attraction brilliantly by having Hayden meet and be attracted to Alice before knowing that she was Al. Because the big problem with these types of stories is how to suddenly introduce an attraction between a straight guy and a person he thought was a close male buddy. Hayden still struggles with the reveal, but the groundwork has already been laid for a relationship with Alice.I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed everything about it. I even read the afterward about how the authors came up with the idea for this story when they were playing a hockey video game. That made me think about how video games themselves are a way for girls to enter mostly male dominated worlds, which is something I never thought about before. This story wasn't any kind of statement about the battle of the sexes. It was about the experience, and that's what all good storytelling is about first and foremost.

Alice Bell is the man
This was a very cute and sporty contemporary romance. I love that its giving she's the man vibes. As a kid I loved that movie. I've read a few romance book where sports is involved and most of those have boon football which I'm not a fan of. I've come to really like hockey sports romances the most. The friendship that grew between Al and Hayden, from hate to completely bromance had me smiling throughout the story. I really loved the heart to heart moments between them. One thing I thought was really messed up was that the brother, not telling Alice that her boyfriend was cheating on her in fear of it getting out that he was gay. And when Alice confronted him about this big secret he was keeping he turned it on her making out she was in the wrong.I am glad it ended on a happy note.

Almost....but not quite....
This book is giving very "She's the Man" vibes and I am so here for it 😂 after I watched that movie I've definitely been on the lookout for books like that cause I love the premise. I think that Al taking the place of her twin on a hockey team because they wouldn't let a girl play....definitely fits the bill. I think that Hayden also fit the male lead who is weirded out and just not into the newbe....until they become besties. Obviously. This was a fairly decent replica of She's the Man. For sure. I think where the book failed to enrapture me was that the ending was very fast and kinda ended with a fizzle rather than a bang. The beginning and middle held my attention, and the pacing was good, as was the relationship development.....but yeah it hit warp speed at the end and didn't really jive for me with the rest of the book. I think I would have liked for this book to have been longer and had a little bit more of an issue to overcome, and seeing it be solved rather than told would have really been what got me. Overall though, this was a very cute read, veeeerrry She's the Man in a lot of ways. Go check it out!

Nostalgia, Spice, & Everything Ice
If you would have told little, teen me that she’d get her dream book, she’d have cried. Grown me now? Still crying, actually. When I was younger She’s The Man was literally the best rom com I’d ever laid eyes on because the entire theme of girl passing as a guy to get to follow her dreams and stick it to sexism was epic. As I’ve gotten older, hockey romance has been the most fun sports romance of all time to me. So getting to read this book that combined the two in a perfect blend of my ideal romance book with plenty of heart twinges and bated breaths was a dream come true.10/10 recommend! ;)

English & Spanish Review :: Good book / Libro entretenido
Me gustó.This book contains secrets, humor and love! Perfect combination. The book has an easy-to-read-yet-well-written thing that makes it interesting but quick. It’s very descriptive in every situation, character and feeling that contains and this way we get to understand how Alice and Hayden think and act.Really cool book!

Lovely YA sport romance
A story about a girl that loves sport and still enjoys dressing up and wowing her crush? Well what more could you ask for? Not much at all.Alice Bell loves NOTHING more than ice hockey. So when the coach finds out she’s a girl at tryouts and pretends that her brother made the team instead, she is furious. Until an accident results in her taking her brother’s place as “Al”. Playing hockey is what she does best, so gaining her teammates support when they all think she’s male is easy. Bonding with her teammate Hayden, however, has unintended consequences as she starts to fall for him. Throw in her brother’s secrets, a blackmailing ex-boyfriend, and an emotionally absent mother, and you have the perfect ice storm brewing…The writing was fresh and, despite being a plot that has been done before, the author managed to make it felt new and different. The characterisation was realistic and with just the right amount of wit and angst to make it believable. The heroine was a wonderful mix of strength on the rink and self-doubt off it. Sweet and heart-warming, this is one of those reads with characters that stay with you long after you’ve read the final page… Highly recommended.
