These specifically, I'm not sure. Alot of it is mined out of Arkansas. Ouachita Mountains.

Show of hands..who uses this to sharpen their snap off disposable blades box cuter?

I've been using this stone to sharpen the same few blades (xacto, box cutters, etc.) for a year+ at this point.

What kind of oil do you lube it with, and can you use water instead?

I use mineral oil and I wouldn't use water, but the stone dosen't seem to absorb the oil like a regular stone so you can try both out if you want.The reason you use either oil or water on a stone is to keep the stone clean during use and doesn't clog the pores of the stone. I hope this answered your question. I bought two stones like this I'm not sure if this is the really small one but they both work really well but a bigger stone is better if you are only sharpening knives.
