Solid choice!
The Nespresso Ristretto pods are a solid choice for espresso lovers who enjoy a strong, well-balanced coffee. I’ve been using them with my Sage Creatista Pro, brewed in "ristretto" mode, and the results have been consistently good, especially if paired with half a spoon of sugar. The flavour profile leans toward dark and intense, and the crema is rich and smooth, with a very inviting aroma. I'd suggest to brew this as "ristretto" and not "espresso" let alone "lungo", to avoid the taste becoming too bitter. The pods are compatible with Nespresso "OL" (Original Line) machines and and lock in snugly, and the machine extracts the coffee quickly and efficiently (unlike some third party pods, especially plastic ones or even aluminium supermarket brand ones, which tend to be problematic). The unboxing experience is typical Nespresso, so very premium and stylish, even perfect as a gift. Overall, the Nespresso Ristretto pods offer a really pleasant espresso experience. While they may not be ideal for lungo lovers or milk-based drinks, they are a high-quality option for everyday use - they really remind me of the high quality coffee I used to get from high end bars in Italy! If you prefer a robust and slightly bold coffee, these are worth a shot.

Robustly good
I purchased these, not initially noticing that these are based on Robusta beans, instead focusing only on the fact that these are original Nespresso capsules. However, the taste is refreshing, and I personally didn't notice much difference to the Arabica capsules I'd previously purchased. I guess my palate isn't that refined!! The pods came well packaged and with a long shelf life. I love having a variety of pods, and so adding these to my collection to be enjoyed over the coming weeks was a good choice. I always prefer having two pods in my latte, and I'd recommend this to others. Yes, it's more expensive this way, but life is for little luxuries! I'd say definitely worth a try to check if you agree with me.

The new go to capsules
Nespresso Ristretto capsules have become my go-to for when I need a strong, flavour-packed coffee that’s full of character. The intensity is just right—bold without being overpowering—and it delivers a deep, rich flavour with subtle hints of cocoa and a touch of fruitiness that makes it stand out from other blends. It’s the kind of coffee that wakes you up, not just physically but also with its complexity. I especially love the versatility of the Ristretto. On busy mornings, I’ll enjoy it as a straight shot—quick, intense, and satisfying. But it’s just as good with a splash of milk, where the creaminess blends beautifully with the robust coffee base. Whether it’s a quick espresso or a more indulgent latte, it holds its own and doesn’t lose any of its depth. What sets it apart for me, though, is the aroma. From the moment it brews, it fills the room with this rich, almost chocolatey scent that makes the experience feel like more than just drinking coffee—it’s like a mini café moment at home. If you’re someone who appreciates a strong, complex espresso, Ristretto is a must-try. It’s reliable, flavourful, and has that perfect balance of strength and smoothness. I always make sure I’ve got a stash of these capsules in the cupboard—they never disappoint.

Super Smooth
Let me start by stating that since buying my first Nespresso pod machine around 7 years ago, I completely stopped drinking instant coffee. I don’t mind being called a coffee snob, I just can’t bring myself to drink instant when it just isn’t anywhere near the taste of pod or bean to cup. This is the first time I’ve tried Nespresso Ristretto pods. I like to try as many different brands and varieties as possible, as I find that although I have my favourites, it’s good to broaden your taste experience as sometimes I stumble on a little gem - which is what has happened with these Ristretto pods. This is one of the smoothest tasting Nespresso pods I’ve ever had. The strength rating is 10 out of 13, which surprised me as a lot of the stronger pods seem to also come with a more bitter taste; that’s not to say I don’t enjoy bitter coffee, this one just caught me off-guard with how smooth it was. I make Americano coffee with my pods by topping the shot up with hot water and adding a dash of milk, so cannot comment on how it is as an espresso shot - that’s a bit hardcore for me! One pod was certainly enough for a decent sized mug, I’ve found that some pods aren’t strong enough without adding an extra shot. Overall, I’d say a super-smooth flavour, without the bitterness. I will absolutely be adding these to my favourites list and buying again.

burnet flavour
While they produce a lovely crema and a decent espresso, the burnet flavour is a bit overpowering for my taste. I've tried brewing them as both short ristretto and regular espresso, but the burnet taste persists. However, adding a bit of sugar helps to balance the flavour and make it more enjoyable.
