The waist is elastic - it seems to fit well if I pull it up high around the waist. I also ordered the monofin that comes with the listing - I would recommend getting fin socks if you are going to wear it for a while. I got blisters with a 45 minute swim - so definitely recommend fin socks. I highly recommended the tail and monofin! Go have fun!

It's not the perfect cut but my monofin fills out the tail nicely and I had no issues with propulsion.Material is great quality - thick swimsuit material. You can not see through the lining even when stretched. Held up in the washing machine on cold without issue (air dry).I'm 240 lbs and normally wear an XXL or size 18 pants. The L size tail fits great on a plus size body!

I was a little hesitant to buy at first, but this mermaid tail is worth every penny! The first thing that struck me was how thick and durable the fabric feels, much better than any other tail I’ve owned. The print is gorgeous and really pops underwater.I chose my size based on the size chart in the photos, and it fits perfectly. and the elastic waistband gives just the right amount of stretch without feeling tight. It’s very comfortable to swim in and looks amazing. This is definitely the best mermaid tail I’ve owned.
