The Ridgeway: National Trail Guide (National Trail Guides)

This book is fine and you'll be ok walking with it, but my friend bought "The Ridgeway" by Nick Hill and Henry Stedman. We ended up just using his book as it had much more useful information giving diagrams showing topology etc for each section of the walk so you could see at a glance how hilly the day ahead was going to be and also hand-drawn maps highlighting points of interest for each section of the walk. Also there was a lot of useful information in it with some good recommendations for deviations from the Ridgeway.Back to this book: It's ok, has interesting information to learn about the areas you are walking through and small sections of Ordinance Survey maps to help you on your way. Additional circular walks are also included rather than "just" the Ridgeway.

This is a very good little book, and has already led to my discovery of things on the Ridgeway I didn't previously know about. The (OS) maps and information are great, as far as they go. To say it gives information on accommodation and refreshment stops though if grossly exaggerating what it contains: there is no mention in the main text of these, and the only "information" the book contains about pubs and B+B's etc, is confined to a two-page section at the back, which gives addresses where one can obtain the information, and the names of 2 hostels. I found this rather disappointing, the say the least. It's a cop-out. Hence 3 stars...

Really nice quality guide book which will be quite sufficient for the walk, when we do it. Nice mix of history and navigation. Based on this will probably get others in the same series for other walks.

Delivered on time. This series of books by Anthony Burton are always very good. The Ridgeway walk in particular was splendid.
