Coralife Aquarium Fish Tank Marine Salt Water Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizer 6X, For up to 250 Gallons

Worked like a charm! I had a persistent bacterial bloom in a 65 gallon freshwater cichlids tank that no amount of cleaning or frequent 15-30% water changing could remedy. My Fluval 405 filter wasn’t making a difference whether I cleaned it monthly or every 90 days. I asked my LFS their opinion on UV sterilizes and was given a “won’t hurt if you try” response. After a lot of research online I paired the 394 GPH flow from my fluval with what I could ascertain was the right wattage and volume UV sterilizer size and read all the reviews I could find on all brands. Decided on the TT 6X and was very pleased with the unit. Sturdy and easy to set up (although I was dealing with splicing it into the flex hose that Fluval seems to love - nothing a little marine epoxy and spare adapter end couldn’t handle) I had it installed and functioning in about an hour. Ran it for 4 days and VOILA crystal clear water! I did lose one fish a few days later. Although the water was clear I didn’t monitor the water quality as closely as I should have. I tested the water when I found a large green terror belly up and as it tuned out, the nitrite level in my tank had spiked dramatically. Every parameter but that was perfect, but one fish RIP and two others clamped tight told me there was a problem that needed immediate attention. Small water changes for 3 days and a dose of live beneficial bacteria to boost my tank had the nitrite back in check in short order. I also backed down the run time of the filter to 4 hours every night. Water quality still pristine after 2 more weeks. The coralife did exactly what I wanted. Had I been coached to check water quality daily after installation the experience would have been flawless. I highly recommend the Coralife UV sterilizers and will buy it again for other tanks.

This thing is amazing and very easy to install. I found the instructions to be ok but once you look at it you should know what needs to be done. This thing zaps everything that goes through it and I haven't had and algae bloom since I've had it on and I have hundreds of plants with grow lamps, so it's pretty impressive!!!! One thing before purchase, just make sure what size you are getting matches your flow rate of filter...just because it says it can handle the size of tank ayou have doesn't mean it matches your flow rate and that's the most important part.

This is my first time trying one of these out. I did some homework first, just to convince myself that the whole concept isn't bunk. I think the answer to that is just a matter setting your expectations. This is not designed to kill all living material that passes through. But rather, it's intended to "sterilize" in the sense that it damages the DNA of passing microbes sufficient to impede their reproductive cycle. I'll note two issues that I have with the user manual: 1) There is mention of a gasket between the end-cap and the chamber that contains the UV bulb. But there is no such gasket. (At least, not in the unit I received.) 2) The diagram illustrates the plastic bulb stand-off frame fitting at the base of the bulk at the end-cap. But it doesn't go there. It goes at the end of the bulb to prevent it from making contact with the inner sides of glass chamber. As I studied the missing end-cap gasket a bit, I came to the conclusion that they only time that the UV bulb chamber will contain any water is when the inner glass breaks. I suspect that the mention of that gasket is just an error on the part of the manual illustrators. If the glass does break, then that gasket will prevent water from seeping through the end cap. To be on the safe side, I found a 65mm "Osterizer" brand gasket which is a perfect fit. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RDG6KY3) I applied some silicon grease and now I have zero anxiety about the missing gasket, which I still believe is a bit overkill. One thing the user manual does right is that it is very careful to indicate the proper way to route the plumbing. It should be located on the filter outlet, and any shut-off valve should be located between the UV and the filter. I don't think the manual made mention of an explanation as to why this is important. But I believe the reason is because you need to make certain that you never let the UV run dry while it is active. When it is active it is hot. If it runs dry while it's hot, that is when the chamber glass breaks. In my install, I've got a check-valve in the sump which prevents backflow on a power outage. Preventing that backflow will also prevent the UV sterilizer from suddenly running dry in the same event. (I suspect this might be what is behind claims about the glass breaking.) For my install, I also had to think long and hard on how to mount it so that I can change the bulb without having to undo any of the plumbing connections. As for the affect on water quality, I am very pleased! It has turned out to work as well as I hoped. I began to notice an improvement in the first 48 hours of run time.

I am 55 years old and have been keeping salt water fish since I was a teenager. I have used UV Sterilizers mostly succesfully for over 30 years. The difference between using them and not using them for me has been minor. The big differences for me has been by using sumps with protein skimmers. That being said I have had 2 really bad experiences with these UV's and I'm done with them. The first issue was 6 years ago when water leaked from the internal chamber of my 12X to where the light plugs into the socket. The GFCI popped and when I came home 2 days later my whole tank had crashed (1st and only crash ever). The water flow through the 6X was appx 150 gallons per hour. The 6X is good for 110 to under 400 gallons per hour. There was no obstruction at the outlet of the unit either. I was working on my tank earlier today and got zapped while my hand was in the tank. Through trial and error and several zaps I determined that the UV was causing the stray voltage in my water. I opened the unit and found the chamber where the bulb plugs into the socket had water causing this condition. This shouldnt be happening and its dangerous!!!

Used this product in a fully planted tank for 2 months now, has %100 met all expectations. Not only is my tank thriving, fish are breeding, water is is crystal clear, but the water has no smell either. The fitting hooked right up to food safe pex pipe that we bought at our local plumbing shop. it is in line after my fluval 406. For aesthetic reasons i Love that this thing is not hanging in our tank. Very happy with what this product has done for our hard scape. Must have imo.

This product is amazing! Cleared up my 55 gallon fresh water aquarium! I absolutely recommend it. I was struggling to keep the algae out of my tank and now I have no more problems

Light works great but the hardware clips to hold up are poorly made. They are not flush and broke holding the unit it was designed for. Not impressed.

Works great. Have hardly had to clean the glass of my aquarium since I hooked it up. What I’ve had to clean off the glass has been very light 2 minutes instead of1/2 hour of scraping.
