Mellifluous, Jangly, & Infectious
Many reviews focus on the juxtaposition of the production found on this album with that found on the previously released singles. I prefer to judge this album on its own merit. At a recent dinner party while listening to pop music from the 60's and 70's, a guest remarked how they don't make music like that anymore. I refuted the claim and guaranteed she would enjoy "Cape Dory". I put it on, and after a few songs, she wholeheartedly agreed. In short, the melodies are absolutely infectious and the supporting guitar provides a very interesting texture to accompany the singer's gorgeous voice. There's nothing edgy about these songs, and they aren't meant to be. They are well-crafted pop songs, and that is a quality I admire. While the lyrics are unquestionably insipid, as they simply tell a somewhat uninteresting linear tale as it unfolds - similar to making up an impromptu ditty with your child as you walk around a supermarket (e.g., "there's a can of peas - oh my a sneeze..."), they do not distract you from enjoying the songs, which will echo in your mind for days after listening. The hooks and sounds are somewhat similar to those found in Phil Spector's "wall of sound" productions. In perhaps every song, there are lots of nonverbal vocalizations, with musical leaps spanning several notes, peppering the chorus, which is great since it downplays any import imposed on the unnecessary lyrics. "Cape Dory" is quality pop music.

terrible production
This cd sounds like I made it with my first smartphone from 2009. The production quality and sound are truly horrible. I like newer releases by Tennis and really wanted to love this earlier album, but it's just not pleasant. The only bonus is that every other cd I listen to afterward sounds crisp and amazing.

Pretty decent cd
I decided to try this cd after hearing "Take Me Somewhere" and "Marathon"- both of which I liked alot. There rest of the cd does not disappoint as is often the case which earns it a four star rating. All the tracks have that interesting classic 50's sound combined with a newer Pop sound which makes the whole cd fun to listen to. The cd is a little short though and the recording quality could be better. If you like "Take Me Somewhere" you should like the whole cd.

Music C.D. "Cape Dory" by the band Tennis.
This band "Tennis",puts together music that is definitely Alternative, in every sense of the word.Music that you can listen to time, time and again.Finding it new and refreshing at every listening experience. You can't lose a dime, buying this album. At the very least, it will become as popular in your new collection of C.D.s in play, and listening time as any music, you now own and love.

Great debut album... hands down. Elements of surf, new wave, and soul. Quite a variety.
I was introduced to Tennis by a very good friend. It was the worst thing that could've happened because this band is incredible. When I really like an artist/band, I end up buying their music. That's pretty much what I did. No regrets.

Updated beach boys
I like this teenis cd. It's very beachy, and I like to listen with the top down on the convertible. This one is better than the next release (which I don't know the name). Tennis performed some time back down in LA, but the venue was standing only, and I think I'm too old for that. :-)

LIght hearted, fresh, and fun
In an era of hip hop, rap, and other musical genres, this is a refreshing blend of music that is fun. The duo does not take themselves too seriously. The recording at times has influences of the girl bands from the 1960's. I welcome this album as it deviates from the contemporary musical "formats" and delivers a refreshing sound for our time.

This is a fun CD, especially if you like sailing (which is why I bought it). I love the lyrics and the music is good with a old 50s Juke Box style.
