For practical and powerful application of Clean Language
Having been intrigued by what I had learned about Clean Language but needing a more practical application of it, my research led me to this book. I read it with great interest and contemplated how I may find it useful as a bi-vocational pastor and teacher. In both of these occupations there is no time or need for such things as symbolic modeling and other longer, clinical uses of clean language. So what I was looking for was something that could make clean language useful in brief informal and semi-formal situations such as discussing grades or classroom performance with a student, or talking with a church member about a prayer request. And of course, there are many other possible scenarios.I didn't get too far into the book before realizing that the Five Minute Coach is an excellent method for applying clean language in a variety of informal and semi-formal classroom and congregational settings. And since reading it, I have had a year's time to practice using the Five Minute Coach in both contexts to confirm that it is indeed a fine approach to using clean language in these various interactions, in both group and one-on-one interactions. But while I can say that I have found Cooper and Castellino's book to be useful in improving my efforts in classroom and congregational interactions, what really sold me on this book/program is when I participated in the Five Minute Coach online training with author Lynne Cooper. This training led me and the other practitioners through the Five Minute Coaching method step-by-step with plenty of practice. It was in this that I not only came to be sold on the Five Minute Coach, but I was deeply moved by it.

A great resource and working model
I am a Clean Language trainer and assessor. In my business I teach and work with many 'clean' business applications. When I first saw the title The Five-Minute Coach I wasn't sure what to expect. My first thought was of the One Minute Manager .. a little bit of story with a conversational tool that could have been explained on one page of text. What I found is a great resource. I agree with the above review who mentions clean language having lots of moving parts and getting deep very quickly. And that alone could be a challenge in a business environment.Lynne Cooper and Mariette Castellino have done a tremendous job of developing a step by step clean language model that addresses the resource of personal metaphor allowing for the recognition of diversity while also focusing on the development of outcomes; distilling some of the best aspects of clean language into a workable tool for business.I love that Lynne and Mariette have created a way of teaching a clean method quickly and with a hands on approach you can actually apply from a book!If you have been interested in clean language or the use of metaphor in a business contexts and wondering how that might happen, this is a book for you.

Simple, good book. Should be paired with Clean Language
It’s a good book. I don’t think the book stands alone by itself. It should be paired with plain language to activate the technique.

Discover the true value of this book
These authors are exemplary exponents of their craft and there is much to learn from them. Whether you make The Five-Minute Coach your coaching method of choice or you use it as an add-on to your existing way of coaching you will be astounded by the results. And you'll make even more of a contribution if you integrate clean questions into your everyday conversations so that asking them becomes a natural way of supporting people to trust their own counsel. It is only then that you will discover the true value of this book.Penny Tompkins, co-author of Metaphors in Mind: Transformation through Symbolic Modelling

I bought this as another way of interacting with my Coaching Clients.Lynne goes through the whole process of quick to the point coaching sessions using clean language, she advocates not having much eye contact with your coachee, which goes against most of the other Coach training books I have read (building rapport skills)On the whole an interesting read.

Clean and Clear
Lynne Cooper and Mariette Castellino have produced a fantastic resource for Coaches and Clean Facilitators. They explain how you can use Clean Language to coach someone to take action in as little as five minutes. The book is based on the work of David Grove, Penny Tompkins and James Lawley, and provides clear instructions for moving through five stages of coaching, with plenty of examples and ideas for what to do if the unexpected happens. There are lots of ideas in this book that will help you to coach people without giving them your ideas and suggestions.
