Review "Lauded by fellow comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Jim Gaffigan, Papa will send readers into peals of laughter... At times poignant, always tickling the funny bone, Papa's first book will brighten the most challenging days of toddler- and teenagerhood." ―Library Journal (starred review)"Your Dad Stole My Rake: And Other Family Dilemmas is a collection of essays with laughs on every page." ―Bookpage"A hilarious book about family, from crazy aunts and uncles, loud grandparents, parenting exploits and more. You might not have Tom Papa’s relatives, but you’ll probably recognize them." ―The New York Post"This book will have your father laughing louder than he does at his own dad jokes." ―Bustle“I have been a close friend of Tom Papa for 17 years. His lack of ability to perceive even the most basic principles of human functioning have made him an invaluable asset to me as a friend and colleague. Because he sees nothing, knows nothing and understands nothing, I always seek his advice for the most complex matters. Furthermore, I would definitely recommend whatever the name of this book is, because I know it comes from a place of pure nonsense without any knowledge of anything. He is really one of my favorite people.” – Jerry Seinfeld, author of SeinLanguage“Finally a funny book about parenting. Great observations. Great writing. Actually funny. I’ve always known Tom was hysterical, now I know he is a great writer and a fantastic storyteller. Can Tom Papa write all books?” - Jim Gaffigan, author of Dad is Fat"After reading Tom Papa’s book, I have come to these conclusions: No one is more put-upon than Tom Papa. Nobody constructs a story and builds a joke better than Tom Papa. Also, Tom Papa is exhausted. I’m very happy he found the energy to write this hilarious book." – Jane Lynch, author of Happy Accidents"This book is a miracle of alchemy; with his gift for observation and unique perspective, Tom Papa has spun his meaningless life into comic gold. Ours is not to wonder why--or how--he does this, but instead to rejoice, laugh, and keep paying him in American dollars." - Steven Soderbergh Read more About the Author TOM PAPA is a comedian known for his work in film, television and radio as well as on the live stage. Best Comedian Today! Check out his videos too!
OMYGOODNESS! I just discovered Tom Papa a month ago (I find very few comics funny). I realize I'm a little behind. Anyway, he has totally won me over. NOTHING makes me laugh out loud like I do watching him. My favorite bit is the one about shopping in the Chinese district/Little China. I die every time I see it.There are too many others to list. And the physical part-his facial expressions, etc. are ridiculous. They're perfect. I pray he does another tour, but I'm sure they are exhausting and he has a family too.I got this book immediately when I saw it. Usually these books aren't very good But seeing his standup I can actually imagine in my mind what he is doing or acting out I can hear his voice coming out of the pages. Amazing.I just encourage people SO MUCH to see his movies and to read this book. I was going to give it to someone as a gift-forget that! This one is mine. It already has chocolate and coffee stains on it. Couldn't really give it away now, huh? Thanks so much to Tom Papa. I am an idiot not to have found you before. You are really phenomenal at your craft. Thank you so much for making me laugh out loud. I haven't in a long time. God Bless your family. Don't get old and weird too soon!Christie MesserHelena Montana

Buy This Book. Pronto.
I've been in love with Tom Papa's comedy for years, so needless to say, I was a bit nervous about the book since I had extremely high hopes for it. I can tell you, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. As a dad, a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, and a cousin, I identified with damn near everything in this book. It's simultaneously relevant and hilarious. Even if you're not a dad, you'll still identify on some level, I'm sure. It's about all things family and friends, and brings an excellent level of humor to these many different facets of life. I consumed this book in two days, and being a photographer who spends most time working from home editing photos on a computer when I'm not at weddings, I even downloaded the audiobook version so I could listen a second time while I work. If you're a fan of Tom Papa's, do yourself a favor and buy this sucker. Get his CD's. Listen to his "Come To Papa" podcast. You won't regret it.

DIssapointing
Have you ever purchased a book by one of your favorite comedians only to find out that the comedy is actually in the delivery and does not really translate well to the written word? I have. I love Tom Papa's delivery and that is what makes the material funny - without his inflection and tone the writing comes off as angry, cynical, and preachy. Quite frankly the book is making me mad. If you are interested in this work I would suggest purchasing the audio version read by the author. Otherwise it's just not funny at all.

LISTEN to don't read this book because. . .
Just as some people (myself included) can't tell a good joke (because it's all in the delivery), I'd recommend that people buy this book in audible format SINCE I bought this book based solely on having heard the author (Tom Papa) read from his book and HE was hilarious. When I went to read other parts of the book including the same sections that I had heard Papa deliver, none of them rang funny or at least as funny as hearing Papa himself. On the other hand if you are good at 'hearing' the joke in print, go for it.

read this book
Funniest and most compassionate book I have ever read. Laughed until I cried and then read it again to continue laughing. Made me strive to be a more compassionate wife, mother, grandma and daughter. I will share this book with everyone I love. What a joyful celebration of the humor, frustration, and insanity of family life!

Every page is laugh out loud funny
This was the funniest book I have ever read. The author didn’t just go for laughs, the family stories are so relatable and have meaning. This would be a good audio book to entertain on a road trip. So rare today to find a book that I think is worth the purchase price but this is a bargain.

Hilarious
If you listen to Prairie Home Companion, you'll be familiar with the author who is absolutely hysterical. He does a bit about family vacations that had me laughing so hard I had to pull over.Definitely buy it. It's just what you need.
