No subscription charge, comprehensive installation instructions, good camera, reasonable price.
Quick set up guide is clear and straight forward. Before installing any brackets, etc you have to charge it for 6 hours using the special C connecter- you need an adapter plug - not supplied. I looked at several battery doorbell products before I decided on this one- it has 2 advantages over the rest. 1. The installation bracket is only 5cm wide - just enough to fit on my wooden doorframe without sticking out. 2. No monthly subscription- except for the One off yearly subscription offered by Tapo - but it's not mandatory like similar products and you can always cancel it at any time. Once you have synced the doorbell and chime to your home WiFi - look at the back of your sky router, installation is straight forward providing you are careful at placing the 3M sticky template supplied- best to dry fit it first then stick to template. I didn't use the wedge templates supplied as the depth of the doorbell unit + template thickness was enough to make the wide angle camera lens stand proud of the neighbouring brickwork. You can set various bell tones on the chime by pressing a button on the side. When the chime is synced with the doorbell the red light goes green permanently. If you subscribe to the cloud you get instant video storage on your synced phone which you can back check. All in all a well though out product and at a reasonable price for the amount of installation prices in the box. Only negative is the night camera is in black and white but the picture is sharp as are the recorded videos. No warning sticker for visitors in the box? Perhaps it's not mandatory in the UK. Remember to set the anti- theft button on the Tapo app and switch it on - button on back of doorbell before you click it into place on the bracket - secured with two wood screws after sticking to doorframe. Review update: if you have recently had a sky router update you will have changed your WiFi settings. The doorbell will now not work even if you reset it- flashes red - it's searching for your new network. After much searching I found the answer. If you have an Internet TV eg Samsung like me, switch it on,press the source button on the remote, sky, home, settings, status, network connection, network setup, advanced settings, check that your 'WiFi hotspots' is set to 'on' and press ' return' . This enables your router to connect to all devices within the house which will include your red flashing tapo doorbell! It will respond with ' doorbell connected' and will flash red and green alternatively to show a connection. Took a bit of thinking out but doorbell works fine now. Hope this helps for those of you who've recently changed their WiFi settings.

Excellent Doorbell – Huge Upgrade
The Tapo D235 2K 5MP Wireless Doorbell is such a great doorbell and has been a massive improvement over the very well-known brand it replaced—the difference really is night and day. Setup and mounting beside my front door were quick and straightforward. The image quality is very good, with a sharp, clear picture, and the app is user-friendly and genuinely a pleasure to use. I’ve installed it using just the internal battery and have been impressed with how long it lasts, even with regular use. Notifications are reliable and everything works smoothly. Overall, an excellent wireless doorbell that offers great performance, ease of use, and fantastic value. I’m very glad I made the switch and would highly recommend it.

Great Doorbell
I had been comparing many doorbells and found this Tapo D235 doorbell which after a recommendation of tapo doorbells from a CCTV security company, having owned a previous indoor tapo camera and noting this doorbell can be powered from existing doorbell wiring, I decided to buy it. In the box comes the doorbell itself, a chime, 2 types of wedges and backing plate, charging cable, jumper cable to bypass the existing chime, wired to extend the doorbell wiring, adhesive strip screws and installation guide. Installing the doorbell can either be stuck to the wall using the supplied adhesive strip or in my case drilling holes and screwing in the back plate and wedge (optional). The doorbell then clicks onto the back plate. Before touching any wiring the doorbell needed to be switched off at the circuit breaker. Once the back plate was fixed on to the wall I connected the 2 existing doorbell wires to the 2 screw points at the bottom rear of the doorbell. Next I had to bypass the existing chime as I wanted to power the doorbell from the existing wiring. This was a bit tricky as the wiring for my chime didn't look like the guidance from tapo. After as few tries it was up and working and the tapo app does tell you if it is actively being powered from the hard wiring or the battery. The app is useful as it guides you through this setup and once done helps you configure the doorbell itself. Operating the doorbell over the last week I've found the doorbell was highlighting motion outside of the boundary areas I setup. What mostly fixed this had been reducing the sensitivity of this event type and found you can re-assign events it's found to re-train the doorbell AI. Other than that I've also managed to connect my Google mini and other phones to receive notifications from the doorbell. Note the Google mini also sounds the chime. The video quality both day and night is good and I can make out people, cars etc clearly. Few things to watch out for. The battery is internal and cannot be replaced like other tapo models. If hard wiring check your chime and online YouTube videos to see if you'll come across any issues. If you need extra chimes currently you cannot buy any and it's not clear the tapo hub which has a chime supports this doorbell. The doorbell needs a stable WiFi connection as my mobile 5G router didn't work well with it but the broadband one did. Overall I'm happy with the doorbell and would recommend it.

Blown away by it!
I had a google nest doorbell for about 5 years and with yet another price hike for the annual cloud subscription I decided to get rid of it and swap for something more affordable in the long term. I didn't have to do too much research. 1 - I have a lot of TP Link products and know they're really good. And 2 - this doorbell consistently comes in the top 5 of best smart doorbell reviews. The main thing I was looking for was a subscription free product with no adverts in the app before being able to view the footage. Now I have the D235 2K 5MP Doorbell and the Tapo app, the only thing I'm annoyed about is that I didn't get it earlier! I've hard wired mine as I already had the wires in place. (the battery life sounds seriously impressive if you don't have the wiring already in place.) But I also really like the fact that if the mains power goes down, the camera can continue to work and will record to the memory card, so isn't reliant on a constant power supply or wifi/internet to keep recording. Although the google doorbell was able to use the original/traditional chimes in the house, I haven't been able to get this to work with this Tapo doorbell - despite the instructions saying it's possible. I tried every wiring combination that I could think of, but in the end gave up on it. It's not the end of the world as the included "smart" chime is really easy to set up, is very loud (volume control within the app) and is a great replacement for the old chime. I have also connected it to my google account, so the google devices around the house also announce when the bell has been rung. As with all TP Link and Tapo products, this is an absolute breeze to set up and was added to the app within a couple of minutes. The app guides you through the physical installation and again this was really easy with all the parts and accessories you might possibly need included in the box. The whole thing was set up and working within 10 minutes. Once working, the response time to view the footage in the app is outstanding. It's so much quicker than any other camera app I have used - including Google nest, Amazon Ring, Yi/Kami and Nooie. In fact, I was so impressed it's prompted me to now replace all the various cameras I have set up around the house with new Tapo ones - and move entirely to this ecosystem. The video quality is very good and easy enough to pick up details like faces at a distance and car number plates. The Ultra-wide view is great for being able to see parcels left by the doorstep - and with ours you can even see if the door is fully shut, so when you're out you can watch back to see if the kids remembered to lock the door! Without any doubt, the night vision mode is 100% better than anything the Google camera produced. I got this during a new year sale - but like sofas at DFS, I think it's pretty rare to not find these on some kind of offer - But to be honest, I genuinely think even at the full RRP, this is great value for money. Although initial set up is very quick, there are a lot of settings to go through to get everything right and as you want it, so I probably kept playing with various settings (detection modes, alerts and notifications etc) for another couple of days. I'm still not completely happy with some of the set up - I can view the footage on my Google Hub display screens by saying "hey google show me the front door" and it shows it fine, but I cannot get it to automatically display when the doorbell rings. So far I cannot work out if this is a flaw with Tapo or Google home, but either way the integration isn't perfect. It can identify humans, pets and parcels but has no facial recognition. So you won't ever get "Joe is at the front door" announced over your smart speakers as you can with other systems like google or Ring. Instead you get a fairly oddly worded "Person moving is at the front door", which isn't the best. So I might end up turning this notification off entirely. Overall though, this bit of kit completely gets my recommendation. It's good value, exceptional quality, a really good user experience and all subscription and ad free. Perfect!

Great subscription free Doorbell
I was after a new Doorbell to replace my existing one with an expensive subscription, trying to find the one with the best reviews I opted for the Tapo D235. First impressions are it's a good replacement and within 2 yrs it'll of paid for itself. Easy to set up, picture quality on a par with my previous doorbell, but it has a much wider angle showing further down the street. At first it wouldn't connect to Alexa, but just did a fresh install of Alexa on another android device and it now works fine accross all my devices. I read on another review that you can only have the one master account on one device, this is easily resolved by using the same log in details over a number of devices. App seems ok, no adverts like reported on some other apps apart from it asking you use the cloud storage. Time will tell if this is a good investment but first impressions are good. Edit...A week on, after a few tweaks I've now managed to stop all false alarms without missing the notifications that matter. Would give It 6 stars if I could.

Updated DO NOT BUY.
I got this one to replace the d21 I am returning as it simply missed quite a few events, identified a small garden water feature as a person, failed to catch postie, failed to catch several people we saw by our gate. so given that the much cheaper d21 is every bit a not so good as this one, I am returning the tapo d235 and getting another which hopefully will put and end to this, 3 doorbells have failed here, 2 of the them tapo. I am going to order another one and if equally as bad then it's very much the brand knocking out inferior products which I find hard to accept given all the positive reviews this model has had, fingers crossed the replacement is as good as everyone says it is, and if it is I shall come back and alter this review. Update, the new one is a country mile better than the one they sent out claiming it was a "Black Friday Deal" from where I am sitting it was a "get rid of the crap stock deal and lets pretend they are getting a bargain deal" this one cost me almost £30 more than the "black Friday" one, is it worth it? not sure but be wary of any alleged deals. Overall I am happy with the camera after comparing it for 3 hours to the previous one and so far doing what it should do. Update 4th Jan 2026, the doorbell is proving to be just as useless as the previous one, not picking up motion, people walking down the path, missing events entrirely, so now it is being returned an BE WARNED, we the customers here at Amazon will have to PAY to send faulty goods back, no free Amazon return unlike the black friday sale one which was picked up by the postman the next day free of charge. I WILL NEVER buy this brand again nor will I deal with this seller again. this review was originally 3 stars to give the benefit of the doubt over a faulty previous one, this now is an accurate review of what to expect.

Amazing 2K doorbell
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely love this doorbell — it’s incredible! The Tapo D235 2K 5MP Wireless Doorbell Camera has completely exceeded my expectations and is far better than my previous Ring doorbell. I’ve now switched fully to the Tapo range, and this doorbell just confirms why — no more monthly subscriptions and a much better experience overall. The picture quality is outstanding — true 2K clarity that’s a big step up from the 1080p Ring I used to have. The wide 180° field of view captures everything clearly, and the built-in light highlights the doorbell perfectly, making it easy for visitors to see even in the dark. I also love the fact that it’s wired with a battery backup and has an SD card slot in the rear, so even if the Wi-Fi or internet goes down, it still records locally — something many other models don’t offer. The AI detection is spot-on too, accurately distinguishing between people, animals, and vehicles so you only get relevant alerts. The setup was simple, the app is intuitive, and the overall build quality feels solid and premium. For the price, this is a brilliant bit of kit — reliable, smart, and subscription-free. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase — excellent product and a huge upgrade over Ring. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a high-quality, hassle-free smart doorbell

Hardwire with power means no battery change.
Originally we used a brand that rhymes with "sink". While we love the fact it hooks up with existing doorbell wirework, it was unfathomable why the designer decided that the "sink" doorbell cannot run on wired power. The result is the old doorbell cam dies every couple of weeks. And you never will be replacing the batteries in time and that leaves gaps in surveillance. Pretty much defeating the mission of the device. This product, the Tapo one supports old doorbell wiring, takes power from it (while losing ability to 24/7 recording which is fine for us) and ALSO give you a digital doorbell to plug in a wall socket just incase. The Tapo app works smoother for me than the "sink" app, response faster when you turn on video remotely after getting notification (in that case the slightest lag becomes the most unbearable) and Tapo app wins hand down by labeling your recording clips with subject detection so you no longer face a long list of files that looks the same with only timestamp to differentiate. A car passed by or a person came to the door it can tell you. It even recognize delivery packages on the ground. That improves life a great deal. And much less feel like being left out even if you opt to not go for subscription.

Pontos a melhorar: O principal inconveniente é a questão do armazenamento cloud.
