Could do better
Well illustrated and with some good stories. Useful collection of old postcards showing trees now lost to us. Greatest coverage is given to the oak but he misses Old Knobbley of Mistley which is one of the ten most famous trees in Britain. Strange that a National Trust book should also miss the Doodle Oak of Hatfield Forest which was one of the biggest oaks ever recorded.. He also misses the Barrington Oak which is one of the biggest living oaks. The yew section is the next in coverage and he includes several large ones but too many small ones and completely ignores the Bleeding Yew of Nevern in Pembrokeshire which has bled red sap continuously since the 1940's at least. Surely worth a story!

Beautiful book that I dip into time and again. I plan to visit many of the surviving trees in the book.

Bought this as a Christmas present and it was very well received. Very interesting book crammed with history and arborial facts. You can appreciate that a lot of work must have gone into compiling this book.
